Cargonian Blood Gnat fighter
The Cargonian military is divided into Legions - usually equivalent in strength to a field army - with each Legion consisting of both ground forces, support units, and space navy units including fighter squadrons and stellar warships. During the assignment of the 7th Legion to Nagulya, during the early years of the Earth/Cargonian war, General Barrington did an immense amount of work to build the 7th Legion into a considerable force. When he first took over the fledgling, freshly created Legion shortly before it was dispatched to Nagulya, the Legion was a fraction of the strength of the 1st and 3rd Legions. However, he took with him a factory ship, and human cloning equipment. Within five years, he was able to make the 7th Legion into a well equipped and well trained, dedicated unit. During that time, he began work on forming elite sub-units within the 7th legion, most noted of which was the Blood Squadron. The Blood Squadron was a highly trained elite unit, equivalent to units in the Cargonian 2nd Legion, who served a strategic mission profile. Unable to expend the time and resources to build ships specifically for the use of the Blood Squadron, Barrington did order a modified version of the Cargonian Star Hawk Light Fighter designed and built for the unit. These slightly smaller, and better equipped, one-man fighters proved to be a remarkable improvement on the original design. Three squadrons were produced before the Federation came to Nagulya to retake the colony. During the long campaign to defend Nagulya, the Blood Squadron, using these new “blood gnats”, proved to be invaluable to operations and the defense effort which eventually drove off both the first and second attempts to retake Nagulya. If there is any weakness to this light interceptor it is the fact that the multiple systems are very power hungry on the ship’s power generator. This severely limits the ship’s combat mission time. The engines are too large for the fighter, which drains immense fuel and power, and the ships weapons are also too powerful - if overused they can actually shut the fighter down for a period of several seconds while the generator builds power back up. Otherwise, the fighter is very agile and quick, and serves its role well as a fighter interceptor. “a colleague of mine asked me not too long ago if I thought we were underestimating the Cargonians. At the time I said, yes, this is a very straight forward conflict, what you see is what you get. However, after reading reports on this ‘blood gnat’ fighter, which is designed and built by front line units, on the front lines, I have since reconsidered my opinion of the situation.” -- Military Advisor to the Federation Security Council, James Tavert, shortly after resigning from his position due to the first debacle at Nagulya.
About this creation

General Barrington, center officer, is flanked to his right by Field Major Barris, second in command of Nagulya posting, Cargonian 7th Legion, and to his left by Commander Delatra, one of a few Artaxian refugees in the empire that serves with distinction in the military - she is the highest ranking Artaxian in the military. The three officers are briefed on recent performance runs of the Blood Gnat by a trooper from the Blood Squadron.

BUILDERS NOTES: First, do not get confused. Yes, I am recycling Star Wars minifigs with little alteration to be used as I please in my little imagination. My collection has been limited for a long time, and I do not pour a lot of money into this hobby (although what I have spent seems a lot). Anyway, I am having fun, and just go with me on this. The MOC is very much so based upon Lego "Firebat" recreations of the beloved G.I. Joe Cobra fighter. My first stab at this design was the "Fell Hammer", also in this folder, and this second iteration is my attempt to make some big improvements on my first attempt. And yes, I am no good at Lego landscaping.

Hey, no worries at all about recycling stuff because we all do it! Love what you've created and don't worry about everybody else. I haven't had a whole lot of time to read all of your Earth/Cargonian War stuff, but I'm sure I'll get around to it. Heck, when I get the time I'm going to end up doing the same thing! Keep it up, I like your little flying vehicles.
