About this creation

Anubis.

Mech frame based on the Egyptian god of the afterlife, Traditionally depicted as half human half jackal, or a full jackal. Anubis is traditionally black (jackals are not black) because this represents decay.

He is also traditionally depicted carrying the instrument used during the mummification process.

Creator notes.

I don't know if it is my computer or the LDD programme, but I've had no end of problems finishing this design. For some reason the hinge tool stopped working and I had to partly dismantle the figure to pose it.

While the figure is incredibly poseable, it is also very top heavy, support would be needed to ensure it didn't just collapse under its own weight.

Colours: Most of the images I've seen show lots of blue and red on the clothing of Anubis, as well as the use of gold. I wanted the upper body to look armoured, which is why there is much more gold on the shoulders and chest.

The white on the hips is meant to represent a loin cloth, often seen in hieroglyphic representations of Egyptian gods.

As always suggests, opinions, advice and critiques welcome, feel free to rate (but no pressure).

Note, since it is not possible to get the hands to grip in ldd, I have included a piece to hold the tool/weapon, if this was built using actual bricks this could be removed. Both hands feature the same clip piece, so the tool can be held in either hand.

edit.

note - due to the description of the mummification process in the original description I put a parental guidance warning on the MOC. I've since edited the description and removed the parental guidance warning as the MOC itself is not graphic or adult (in my opinion).

At least 2 updated versions of this model are currently on my lego.com 3d creator gallery, I may include images of these models here in the next couple of days. Modifications include:

longer neck
wider torso
longer, redesigned arms
altered colour scheme

I may make further changes to make the completed final figure more "mech" like in appearance, besides the odd grill the current design still looks a little organic to me, it certainly doesn't look like there is room for a pilot.

short list of suggested changes (please feel free to add more in the comments):

- clearly defined cockpit. (since the figure is well over 16 bricks high it may be possible to adapt it to accommodate an actual mini fig pilot.

- bulkier shoulders

- weapons, mostly melee type, though I'd also like to incorporate some form of shoulder cannon or missile rack.

- tail? jackals are related to dogs so a tail might be appropriate, however the humanoid version of Anubis featured on hieroglyphics is usually shown to be human from the neck down - I've already taken some creative license by giving him dog like limbs.

- bigger head - though I love the way the head turned out, it is difficult to make out the snout shape when looking directly forward. Therefore I would like to make the head wider with more slopes to the sides. The original head was intended for a much shorter leaner design, as the figure bulks up the head seems some how too small for the body shape.

Quoting Mihe Stonee hey - nice idea for a mech, and a cool looking built. The only question i somtimes ask myself for LDD models is - would this work on reality ? I mean maybe the legs are not stabil enough...

you're not the first to ask that. to be honest I'm not sure, it's quite a heavy top half so it probably would need to be supported to stand. I kind of think of it more as a sculpture than a working action figure. when you get to this size I suspect swapping to exo force joints might be more practical.

thanks. From being a kid I've always had a thing about Egyptian myths and legends. But this will probably be my only mecha based on that theme.
