Recreation of Henrik Hoexbroe's Calypso Ship
About this creation
It's finally finished!!! Below are the LDD screen captures.

A few things I would have changed if doing this again. I like the design of the base but would have built it into the bottom hull itself (the ship is a little wobbly on the base) I wanted to experiment with a different design for the back of the ship but tried many different things on LDD and couldn't come up with anything (I wanted to give the back a more fluid edge).

A huge thanks to Henrik for providing the inspiration and helpful pictures! The ship will be on display at a local LEGO convention and then into someone else's collection in support of charity.

Thanks guys! The recreation was a challenge and I still needed to come up with my own ideas on how some of the pieces when together or how to create certain items. Now onto the next project :-)

Collaboration is a thing of beauty. This is as much a credit to Mr. Hoexbroe as to you. The challenge to recreate can be as great as creation. One could only hope to see more of this.

I think you have finished this now┐? -It looks pretty complete to me. It is astounding how you have reproduced it down to the smallest details; even where I had to improvise grosely becuase of a very limited Lego-collection. You should try to get more exposure; joining it to some groups here and/or publishing at Flickr, etc. Congratulations on the achievement!

I had the same problem with the building guide in LDD. I had to adjust multiple times while I tried to get the step right. I'm also curious about the paper instructions. I just sent off for the rest of the ship last night so now I just need to wait on all the parts to come in. Bricklink came in real handy for the hard-to-find parts.

I can imagine how it was, without bending the hull, in Digital Designer. I love this program(i've designed my sub with it), but some features can be improved. For exemple, i had to use my computer in order to mount my model(lego was unable to print me the mounting instructions). The problem is that the program does not focus on a particular part of your model and every 3 or 4 steps, it resets the camera angles. So you always get lost... I'm a bit wondered if you tell me you have paper instrucions for your model, because it seems to be at least as complex as mine(i would say more)...

I love it! I love when people take time to explain how they do it! And you're doing it very well! Could you tell me what you think about my submarine model? :-)

Thanks guys! It's actually up to about 40 hours now for the designing. The bottom hull took the most time to create. The funny thing is that I was so excited to start building with actual legos that I built the top hull in one evening.

Great work, very detailed preparation. Not bad to get the drawings in 20 hours!
