In honor of the new Harry Potter movie, I decided to build the Lovegood's house.
About this creation
Here are some shots of the whole model. Lets take a closer look at it!
Here is the interior. It was very hard to make it movie accurate because sadly, I didn't get to see the movie :(. Still, I looked at the house in some trailers and clips on the internet and used them to make this as accurate as possible.
Since the Lovegood house was very cluttered, I had to added a lot of random stuff in the building. Here you can see the fake diadem of Ravenclaw and the Erumpent horn, and I'm not sure if these actually made the movie or not. There is also the printing machine in the background, which is based off the one in the movie.
Here is just a desk and the fireplace, where the heroic trio and Mr. Lovegood did most of their talking.
The second level is just these ornamental dragons and this desk. However, there is more than meets the eye on this desk...
When you push the desk forward, it pushes on the front window and "smashes" it. You'll notice that I tend to include play features in my models, even when I can't play with them, like in LDD. What fun is Lego if you can't play with it?
The third level includes yet another play feature. I don't know for sure if this would actually work, since I can't test it, bur in theory it works nicely.
What you do is you put the "rocks" into the tray and try to shoot the end of the tray. Since it's on hinges, if the bullet hits the tray, then it will move up, allowing the "rocks" to rain down onto the house below. It is yet another feature that gives the impression that the house is falling apart. And in this one you get to play the Death Eater.
The very top level is Luna's room, which I know didn't make the movie :(. This is pretty simple and is sort of based off the top room of The Burrow. If this was a real Lego set, I could probably use the magic of stickers to add portraits of Luna's friends, but since I couldn't, there really wasn't much I could do in this limited space.
Here are my Harry, Ron, and Hermione minifigs. Not much to see here.
Here is the Death Eater minifig and Xenophilius Lovegood. I really like how "Xeno" turned out. Also, there is a sign that should read "Keep Of the Dirigible Plumbs". I am really glad that made the film.
Here is another shot of the whole model. It was difficult making the round shape of the house, but I like how it turned out.
And here is a side view of the model, so you can see how I "rounded" the house a little better. You can see that the side walls are actually on a half-stud offset.
And here is a final shot of the entire interior. The interior was definitely the most fun part of the model.
So this concludes my latest Harry Potter MOC. I finally got a new Harry Potter set so I should be building a model out of real Lego pretty soon. I really enjoyed building this model and I'm pleased with how it turned out. Thats the beauty of LDD, it allows you to build with parts that you may not own in real life. I should be posting some more MOCs pretty soon, so keep checking back!
