To paraphrase Tenacious D: This is not // the best set in the world // this is just a Tribute.
About this creation
The rig is built entirely from studless beams, I have tried to retain as much of the looks and proportions of the original.

The crane keeps all its features and is operated by the pneumatic switches under the running-boards. A particularly nice touch I enjoyed in the original set.

I have retained the much-maligned pneumatically-operated turntable, and it works suprisingly well in the new studless world. This was the probably the only achilles heel of 8868.

The pneumatics are driven by a PF M-motor, the compressor is located behind the cab, under the battery-box like the original.

There are some small changes, like double rear tyres, and a slight re-arrangement of the horizontal beams along the chasis, but it's basically as it was in studded Lego.

Hope you like this, I quite enjoyed re-visiting a set I fondly remember from before my dark ages. I might look at remaking some more of my favourites, a studless 8880 Supercar would look nice...

Excellent work. I hope LEGO brings back this set in a form similar to your interpretation...
