Mark IV - RADIANT class tactical mech
First in a planned series of mechs.
About this creation
My first mech as well as my first MOC posting. Kind of going for the clean armored look over the bristling with weapons look. The radiant class is meant to emphasize pecision and versatility (see weapon descriptions below) over shear fire power.

Influences include the XBOX 360 game Chromehounds (especially the Morskoj mechs), and Dan Jassim's excellent Mech 1. Dan's influence is most obvious in the legs and in the color scheme, which I outright stole. I tried other styles, colors, etc.. but nothing looked as good. At least I used dark grey instead of light :) Props Dan!

After the fact I have also noticed some similarities to Metal Gear Rex, but since I have never played a Metal Gear game (I know, I know...) it is coincidental.

Well, hope you like it.

Design started with the torso. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I love giant gaping intake grates on my war machines.

Feet originally had a three-toed look, but I prefer the big solid sledgehammer foot.

Originally had an elaborate antenna array on top, but it just looked messy.

Remaining targeting and communications equiptment are located either on the weapons themselves or in the nose of the cockpit simlar to a modern fighter plane.

Legs use one AT-AT style click joint at each knee and ankle. It's enough to support the wieght but not by much especially when it's ...

   walking.

and ... walking the other way.

Yeah I know it looks like it's falling over, but it really is standing on it's own... barely.

   Weapon systems

Two 55mm heavy machine guns. 550 rounds per minute... kind of slow but large caliber for a machine gun.

8 barrel 6mm anti-personel gatling gun on the bottom (described in detail below).

The weapon pods on either side are modular and can be fitted with different weapon configurations depending on the mission. Payload shown consists of four 220mm rocket tubes and a light rail gun. Using a discarding sabot the rail gun fires a 3kg tungsten rod at 4km per second resulting in a kinetic energy at the muzzle of 24 megajoules.

A different weapon configuration consisting of a 40mm sniper rifle and it's long-range targeting system. Also shown is the 6mm gatling gun with it's maximum ammo capacity of 24,000 rounds.

The 8 barrel gatling gun. Designed for anti-personel use it's 6mm rounds are ineffective against heavy armor but at 9000 rounds per minute it's devastating against infantry. Ammo capacity varies depending on mission parameters and range from 6000 to 24,000 rounds.

The open cockpit shot. I tried to get a close up of the interior, but it didn't turn out and it is pretty plain anyway.

The entire cockpit angles up and launches like an escape pod in case the mech is incapacitated. Forgot to take this shot before I started disassembly so this is all I got.

Kind of a cool shot with all the weapons aligned.

Makes a pretty big target for passing seagulls. Good shot of how the legs can angle in at the hip joint.

   "You talkin' to me?"

Yeah I know, you saw that line coming.

As with all of your large DF mecha, I love the legs. I have tried to duplicate that feeling of pure power, but I unfortunately don't have the pieces. The jointing is masterfully done. Great work!

this is my inspiration for my first mech (well this and Scorp's Manegarm)that I made for Nova Refuge...I think its pretty good and after seeing all your other Dawn Forge stuff I'm definitely going to make more bigger and better mechs. I also love your Halo stuff...could you check out my first mech and my Halo stuff because you seem to be really active judging by how much you comment all the time...

This one definetly has an interesting shape. The way the legs can be positioned really makes this a great mech! Keep adding this level of articulation, makes for a great model.

I love how the cockpit looks like a head and the head itself looks like it wants you dead. Even if I had enough pieces (sigh) I could never make something like that. Not that I wouldn't try. You truly are the MOC-pages Mech-Lord.

LOL! at 55mm(5.5cm) it wouldn't matter how many rounds were fired a minute, the enemy wouldn't be moving far...in one piece anyway... This is excellent (well i can't call it good now could i?). Looks like i need to buy some more Dark bley LEGO. ~Martin

very, very nice, now i know i'm just another of the thousand noobs who probably review your awesome mocs but i just wanted to let you know that dawn forge was a great inspiration in the design of my own H.I.S.U.'s especially the absolver, meridian, and d-3, i unfortunately do not have quite as many legos as are needed to build something like this but i do take some small pride in my small mecha. i would love to get some feed back from one of the great mecha builders on the site as to where i can go with my mecha line i am developing. keep up the amazing work!

the guy below is right. it would be cool for a mech movie. ps: isn't it weird how you're the one who invented dawn forge, but i have made more dawn forge creations? i know that its only because your mocs are much bigger, though it is sorta odd.

Great Mech! I agree with the big gaping intake grates, too. I love the cockpit design and the way the legs look when it walks. I kinda have to complain about the gatling gun. To the perverted mind, it looks kinda looks, um, weird. I think it's fine though. Anyway, the feet are cool and the interchangeable weapons were a nice feature. As usual, you have made one of the best mechs on MOCpages!

I like it, my only problem is that the Mini-gun is only 6MM, Because it's such a small caliber it wouldn't be to effective agaist Troops.... I would make it a .308 like the M134 Mini-gun, or even better, 20MM As with the Vulcan... But other than that, This is a great mech!

Eeek! YOU'RE the guy who called my Heavyfront sweet? My blood's running hot...So I'll gather what dignity I still have and say: Awesomness. I envy all your creations, and think few do better jobs at this. You rank 3rd out of 5th of my favorite builders. Can you beat Legohaulic and take 2nd?

A well deserved 5, I love this mech. The colour scheme simpicity adds to the smooth and simple lines to make it very sleek indeed. Smooth bodywork is good when done well, and this IS done well! The only thing that could have improved it would be to greeble the weapons more. I think it would have contrasted the simplicity of the bodywork well. I eagerly await the next one.

Impressive, this is what i would call a mega mech, heavly armored and very awesome looking. Its cool how you built the legs wiht no corelation of "up" of the pieces you used. Putting them at different angles and such. Nice armorments by the way.

Excellent design. Very well exicuted. I'm a fan of clean lines, so this mech gets high marks from me! Im currently working on instructions for my previous creation, and I will be working on a new one in the months to come. So maybe keep an eye out. Once again, awesome MOC.

Slick mech. I like the interchangeable weapon pods and I can definitely see Dan's influence in the nearly studless legs. They may not be too flexible, but they are beautiful.
