Well folks, given my love for Star Wars and Dawn Forge, this type of build was only inevitable.
About this creation
Although this certainly fits the Dawn Forge style, it is not meant to be a DF creation. I wanted to take an iconic sci-fi ship and make a “modern” version of it.
If you don’t know what the Dawn Forge is, look here
If you don’t know what an X-wing is…I…I don’t know what to say

This picture shows the pilot for scale. Once again I used my favorite windscreen combo, expect to see more of that in the future as well. Each of the wings is equipped with a double-barreled automatic rifle. There are also two missile launchers under the front of the windscreen (one on each side).

Piece for piece, the nosecone (I guess that’s what it’s called) took me the longest to get right, even though it is very simple structurally. That being said, I am very happy with how the angles turned out.

Some random greebles… I went with some smaller engines this time; I didn’t want to overdo it. And in case you were wondering, my version is about twice as wide as Lego’s X-wing, and almost twice as long.

And of course the wings do shut, I couldn’t live with myself if this function was absent. I finally got to use those engine block things you see on the sides near the windscreen, I’ve been looking for a good use for those for a while.

Landing gear! It’s certainly a first for me, my roommate (a mechanical engineer) gave me crap because all the wheels are towards the back, but hey, at least they support it (and keep it level, not as easy as it sounds). I would have liked to take a picture with it actually on the ground but the angle wasn't good enough to show the tires, meh.
Well I could have included more pictures, but I think you get the gist of it. My first version of the X-wing took me nine hours over two afternoons to finish, then I spent about two hours a week later tweaking some things. So yeah, 11 hours total for this…not bad.
Anyways this will hopefully not be my only militarized Star Wars creation, so stay tuned!

I guess I'd already commented on this. Just saw it on Flickr for what I thought was the first time. It's all downhill after 40, I suppose. It's a great look, and a little BSG Mark VII Viper, too. Awesome! |

It's a cool spin on the x-wing, especially the cockpit... |

Now This looks great. I like how you took one of the most recognizable ships out there and did your own spin on it. The angled cockpit looks like it was really complicated, but it fits together seamlessly. |

Really cool, I like the SNOTwork on the wings. The cockpit is really awesome, and of coarse, its quite an interesting fusion of themes, great job! |

The SNOT gives it a very awesome effect. It's the best x- wing I've seen, and i have to say it's way better than legos version. I like the teqniuqe that you used on the windscreen. I like the backside although I think the back wheels are a little far back. |

Well done on this, the shaping is beautiful, it is well armed, the windscreens are brilliant and blend well, the closing wings are brilliant, and it is just a beautiful bird! an all around winner mate! |

Quoting Tom Simon
I know what an X-wing is. I remember it well from the Wizard of Oz. It was flying around inside the tornado.
That's the one!!

That's a cool windscreen indeed. Not so fond about the landing gear, it looks odd for a craft that lands vertically.
Well.... it doesn't land vertically, haha. it is meant to take off like a regular jet.
Anyways thanks everyone for the comments! i know the landing gear is disappointing, ill do better next time ;) |

I know what an X-wing is. I remember it well from the Wizard of Oz. It was flying around inside the tornado. There is no doubt it's a beauty. Every kid should have one of these. That means every kid's father just hates you. The cockpit does work very well, along with the rest of it. I think I have to agree with your roomie about the front wheel.

The engine outlets seem a little undersized to me, actually, especially given the eleborate setup on the original X-Wing. Beautiful ship nonetheless, this turned out to be pretty cool. Blending Star Wars and Dawn Forge has resulted in a ship that doesn't really fit either, but belongs in its own brilliant category. |
