Polar Pavonis Rally
The Martian Polar Pavonis Rally takes place annually (a Martian year is 687 days) between Schmit Ice Base at the Southern pole and the MSA Research station at Pavonis Mons, near the Martian equator. The race is a martian tradition commemorating the emergency transport of oxygen to the base in the first years of settlement.
About this creation
This is a picture of the twenty-first race, shown are the Octan-Arrowhead racing team who went on the win the race for four wheeled vehicles and support vehicles. The red and yellow truck is a holosphere camera vehicle recording the race for ESPN-8.

The most curious vehicle here is the blue Tejas sports car built by the Martian arm of the Mahindra car company. Later in the race it was one of 14 vehicles swallowed up by a massive sandstorm that raged for almost five weeks, well past the battery life of the emergency beacons carried at the time.
It is therefore one of the 'Lost Racers', ghost cars, still claimed by some to race through the martian deserts at night. In actual fact this lost racer was found almost 72 years later and can now be viewed at the museum of Martian History in Marineris City.

Like all martian vehicles they are powered by Hydro-Carbons mined by Octan and other companies on Saturn's moon Titan. Current terraforming estimates are that it will take another five centuries of heavy industry and ultra fuel burning cars for Mars to reach a level of atmospheric pressure where liquid water can exist on the surface.

Built: January 2011 - individual folders for all of the vehicles will follow.

Hmm, after seeing some of this stuff, im starting to get the urge to build another scifi race car ( note my last design was rather basic). Have you ever considered a snow/ ice mountain race with cars having the ability to go almost vertical. I bet you probably already thought of that tho.

I see you joined the Rocket Surgery Group. I started a new Landscape topic, and was wondering if you might enlighten us on how you did this...Thanks!

It took me a moment to realize that you had built the random bits of rock instead of editing them in. Great work on the vehicles, I particularly like the big support vehicle. This Lugnuts challenge is producing some great entries, and this is among the best of them for certain.

Awesome rigs, Dude! Great job on those pics, too, putting mocs on terrain is much tougher than in space. Well done!
