A Purist's Conundrum
Here's what I did on a snow day when all my patients canceled. The car Parnelli Jones drove to win the 1963 Indy 500: the Willard Battery Special. Also the Marmon "Wasp" that Ray Harroun won the very first Indy 500 with way back in 1911. Two classic open wheel race cars complete with stickers and decals (the purist's conundrum).

Quoting Marc dZ I did not know this race car and went on Goo*** to discover: What a nice work you achieved! Very clever shape! I like the way you designed (both) like "desk models". You were shared between sticking to reality and respecting lego roots. I think it's a wrong issue: you proved that both could get married for a great result.
Hey Marc, thanks for the remarks. I like the way you put it ... "married for a great result".

Dude, these things are SWEET! I have been around racing all my life and these things are awesome! My dad has a dirt late model that we race on saturdays. I bet he would remember seeing pictures of the Parnelli Jones Indy Car! 15 out of 10! AWESOME AND EPIC! Signed one very thrilled Lego enthusiast!

I'm with Mark, if Legoland can cut and glue, so can we. Some of my own projects have custom stickers, without them the model just wouldn't be finished.

Quoting Hans DendauwNPD Mark is absolutely right. What artist doesn't journey outside the use of the usual tools to achieve an end? If it makes it better, it makes it better. Fantastic work with the curves and lines.~H
Hans, thank you for the compliments on the curves and lines. It was challenging to get it rounded properly to match the actual roadster and I'm pleased to see so many AFOLs like it.

Quoting Mark Kelso If Legoland can use everything from real plants, rocks, etc. to gunite and fiberglass as part of their MOCs, I don't think a purist should be too fussed about a sticker or two. ;-)...Nice one, Brian!
Mark, thanks for the encouragement. That's a good point about LEGOland I hadn't considered.

So you didn't use LEGO stickers! who cares when the models are as good as this. The stickers only emphasize the models more, making them more realistic.Great work.

I've lived in Indiana since 1985, however, I was born and raised in St. Louis. I do several shows each year in the St. Louis area so I can hang out with my Dad who helps me set everything up and monitor the crowd.
