Dio the Corruptor
Dio is a mechanoid with a single diabolical goal burning within its methodical A.I. That goal is to systematically eradicate the organic pestilence known as humanity throughout the galaxy. How Dio came into being is not entirely known but what is known is that Dio was once the Bio-mech known as the ARC-3H Archangel. Perhaps it was disgrace of being rendered obsolete or maybe it was some glitch in its programming, either way the real nightmare began when an experimental strain of nano-machines was fused to the Archangel frame in hopes of boosting its combat capabilities. Instead of enhancing performance, the nano-machines went out of control. They began twisting the frame at the molecular level, redesigning the systems and literally mutating it into unearthly steel demon. On top of that, the nano-machines begin repairing any damage almost instantly. In other words, the only way to stop Dio would be to either render all of the nano-machines inert at once or to incinerate Dio with an immense energy blast along with whatever planet it’s currently on! What’s even worse is that Dio can transmit its nano-machines to other mechanical devices (including vehicles and even other mechs) and infect them not unlike a virus spreading to a new host to take it over. This ability has been labeled “the corruption” by those fortunate enough to survive its horrific effects. Whether any force will be able to stop such a menace is anyone’s guess. All we can pray for is that a means to do soon is found soon before it’s too late.
About this creation

Frontal shot

Left side

The Plasma Wave Battle Claw closely resembles the one seen before Dio was “born” except this new claw possesses nearly triple the energy output and tensile strength of the original model. One attack mode that Dio retains is the devastating dual strike where it latches onto an opponent and the fires the laser at point blank range, obliterating the helpless victim.

Back Shot

Right Side

A whole new combination weapon on the right arm is the Laser Claw Sword. Two laser cannons provide ranged firepower. The blade itself generates an invisible energy field that allows it to parry beam based melee weapons while its monomolecular edge allows it to slice effortlessly even through reinforced armor plating.

Dio’s head has sprouted new projections while losing others. The most notable change is the eye. What used to be a glowing orb has transformed into a blackened X shaped abyss surrounded by gear like teeth.

Torso Shot

Mounted to each shoulder is a SRM-4 Corruptor short range missile launcher. These are fire and forget missiles with a maximum range of 1000 meters that only launch once a lock onto the target is established. Unlike traditional explosive warheads, each Corruptor missile carries a payload of nano-machines. Upon impact, the nano-machines enter the target and begin to take over its systems. The effect isn’t that far different from being bitten by a Hollywood zombie and then slowly turn into one as the nano-machines spread throughout the infected target, turning it into one of Dio’s minions.

Slung on each hip is a Pulse Laser Cannon attached to a rotating turret.

Farther down each leg is an additional SRM-6 launcher. This gives Dio a total of twenty missiles to corrupt potential targets with.

Gratuitous action pose #1

As if monomolecular edged claws and blades on both arms weren’t enough, a pair of sickles, also with the same characteristics is attached to each foot. Here the sickles are in their storage position.

Now they are fully extended for melee combat.

This rear shot of the legs reveals the support struts. Upon closer inspection the feet are actually fused to the lower legs but are still surprisingly stable.

Primary heat exchangers are located on the lower rear torso and multiple power cables run throughout Dio’s body.

Gratuitous action pose #2

Gratuitous action pose (close up) #3

After Dio’s transformation was complete, the first thing it did was hunt down the other remaining bio-mechs to eliminate any potential threat they may pose.

Its first victim was the Whip Scorpion artillery mech.

Gazing into the dim eye of its former comrade, one can only wonder what data Dio’s malevolent A.I. is processing.

While scanning the remains for something useful,

It turns out the Whip Scorpion’s pilot is still alive.

While attempting to crawl to safety, Dio detects the injured soldier.

Without a nanoseconds hesitation Dio’s steel talon clamps down on the unfortunate soul.

After briefly analyzing the squirming life form,

Dio discards the useless creature,

and tramples it underfoot like the useless fleshling that it is. Surprisingly the pilot’s suit is highly resistant to tearing and retains ruptured bodily fluids amazing well!

A new target has been acquired.

BUILDER’S COMMENTARY: Standing at 13 inches tall, Dio is the largest free standing MOC I have built so far. As I was trying to come up with a name along with a design, “Holy Diver” began playing on the radio. As soon as I heard Ronnie James Dio’s voice belt out those lyrics, I instantly knew I had to build a MOC that paid homage to one of the greatest rock and roll gods of all time. He may be gone but his songs will inspire for all time. Rock on Ronnie, rock on!

...Well, Obviously the past me was out of it when he posted the previous comment, my apologies for calling you Bob, Mike... Not sure why such an error occurred, how embarrassing. Also, MOCs like this, seeing that I reviewed this back when HFR!!! just started makes me wonder where the time has gone since then. Anyway, I know you've seen most of the content before, but I reposted my Urocyon MOC page, though I overhauled the entire page, new story, updated the design slightly, added a variant, and brand new Clawbots with Action Scenes. So, you may want to check it out once more.

Quoting Mithryl Dlarix So, can you give us any hints about new stuff coming up?
Right now I am part of the 2011 MOCathalon so my next several builds will be in some of the categories posted there. My plan is to hopefully get a few built this coming weekend. As to which ones you'll have to wait and see!

Quoting Mike C Excellent build here. I really like the use of parts you got going on. The mech has a lil bit of a Megatron feel to it. It think it's the claws. Great build.
Thanks again. maybe this Meagtron's long lost brother looking to make his mark upon the universe!

Quoting Mithryl Dlarix I haven't built much with bionicle, and certainly nothing worthy of being posted, but I do occasionally use bionicle elements in my builds, such as weapons or wing parts.
I guess that means I'll have to go back and search for those little nuggets to see how you incorporate them once again. Don't worry, I'm okay now. At least until I have my next meltdown over lackluster reviews or design incompetency. Just lucky I guess! You would think an old fart-knocker like me wouldn't give two rips about validation but I guess I fell into the trap like any other numb-nuts! Now I have to find my way out.

Quoting Mithryl Dlarix Dude, you've really got to stop coming down so hard on your own MOCs. Each MOC you build is a learning experience--you literally build on what you learned the previous time, if you'll pardon the pun. With lego, its practice, practice, practice makes perfect. I still notice improvements on my own things with each new MOC I create, virtual or otherwise. If you look at each successive moc of yours, you will notice the same thing. If you want to improve your mech building skills, then just build, build, build. Focus on the mecha. The same goes for any other genre as well, just keep trying out new things with it. You know who had a very similar attitude when they first came here? MOODSWIM. But he kept at it, and really improved his skills by quite a few levels. Now, he's much more well-known than I am. Thats how it goes. Also, getting useful feedback helps, when trying to improve, so I'll start you off. One of the reasons that I believe that you are struggling is that you are mixing too many technic/bionicle elements with system parts (bricks and so forth). While this may result in a structurally sound mech, or a playable one, often the builds get bulky, unwieldly, and not as unified looking as you originally envisioned. I can completely sympathize, because I used to do the same thing. However, I learned to try to keep my bionicles with bionicles and system parts with system parts, and mix them only sparingly here and there. I used to get frustrated that no one noticed how sturdy and playable my builds were and only gravitated to the flashy, structurally unstable ones that could barely stand unassisted. It was then that I realized that you can't communicate sturdiness and playability very easily through a picture. But you can communicate good looks easily. If your goal is to get noticed on MOCpages, then you need to make flashy, unified looking models and hide any instabilities for as long as it takes to take a picture. If your goal is to make structurally sound models, then continue on doing what you are doing. It really depends on your goals. But most of all, regardless of what anyone else thinks--you should be satisfied with what you have built. As long as you have that, nothing else matters. You really don't need the approval of a bunch of faceless strangers who don't know you and what you are about. That's my two cents.
Relax my friend. I know where you're coming from. I'm just one of those types that can't seem to be happy unless I'm emasculating myself. No matter what I build, it's never good enough either. Guess it's that German blood in me. You won't let us take over the world and everything else leaves you lacking. I have to admit though, the popularity contests around here, as with everything in life, really rub me the wrong way from time to time. Personally that's one of the things I think is wrong with modern society. All most people carry about is the flash and forget the substance beneath it. Sooner or later my mood will swing again and I'll be back to the happy raving lunatic you know and love! On the lighter side, when did you ever build anything with Bionicle?

Quoting ccy 8086 Sorry that I don't really understand the BIO but this thing is really looks great!
I have an idea to what you don't get. This MOC is based on one of my older "Bio-mechs" called the Archangel. Basically the idea was this older mech was mutated into a super-powered battle droid bent on wiping out the human race. If you check out the Archangel and then compare it Dio you'll see the similarities. The plan was to build a storyline around this unit but now I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Quoting Gringat the Repugnant It's amazng how wierd some of the Bio-MOC stuff can be when you approach it from another angle. I love it, especially with all those support parts and things - the thighs are unusual too, but they look like they work really well.
Thank you my friend. I was starting to think I had broken some sacred taboo since almost nobody was even leaving a comment for me to figure if this was any good or not! Although I have to admit it seems whenever I attempt a Bionicle/Technic based MOC it's never really popular and I don't know why. As for the specifics, the legs do support the weight and I especially like how the lower section came out but I think I might need to change the knees because he still falls over if not positioned just right. All the extra parts were intended to make Dio feel mechanical but still partially alive in some way. In fact if you've ever seen the movie "Virus" with Jamie Lee Curtis, that's what I was kind of going for.
