About this creation
My eigth skyscraper based off of Spencer Rezkalla's original design. The GE Building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, completed in 1933, forms the centerpiece of the Rockefeller Center in New York City. With nicknames like "The Slab" and "30 Rock," the GE Building serves as the headquarters of the NBC television network. The building is also known for its exceptionally festive Christmastime decorations. At its base, a several-story-tall Christmas tree stands above the sunken plaza's ice skating rink which features the famous statue of Prometheus.
This model is my fouth skyscraper from New York. To replicate the vertical beams of the facade between the building's windows, over 800 tan grill tiles, mounted sideways, are used. The model took nearly five whole days to design, about fourty-eight hours to build, and an overall three months to complete. Model completed February 1, 2011.

 The two smaller buildings in front of 30 Rock. Notice how I used tiles, as opposed to plates, underneath the clear pieces so as to avoid seeing studs through the "windows" of the model.
 The sunken plaza featuring the famous ice skating rink in front of the statue of Prometheus. Behind this is the massive Christmas tree featured in just about every NYC-based holiday movie including "Elf" and "Home Alone 2: Lost In New York."

 This picture shows one of my favorite details of the building. That detail is the fact that the vertical beams represented by the tan grill tiles match the exact number of beams in real life.

This is great, and it definitely captures the look of the Rockefeller Centre. I was there just a month ago, and the Lego store you mentioned is really good, despite its small size. I'm pretty sure it was on the right side of the plaza though (that's probably what you meant anyway). |
