Great looking ship Blake. But for that size I think the laser connons are too big. Maybe more top level sections followed by the bridge could make it more " natural ". Just a thought:-) |

Hey, Blake, might I suggest getting an 18-wheeled truck in case you want to build anything larger than the Manticore? Seriously, wow, just a great build all over. I mean this thing looks sleek, it looks deadly, and it looks like it could very well be a real space craft design one day. I especially love the unique layout of the main control room windows and the gun turrets. |

No Offense to anyone out there but it seems like it is always people above their twenties or thirties that make these MOCs, so maybe that is why they can build such AWESOME and Craptacular masterpieces. Again, no offense, but this guy has probably been building and collecting legoes his whole life, so just keep building and you will get as good as this guy someday. |

We want more technique pictures:-) Is it build in dark bluish gray parts and did you purchase from bricklink? Your sence for creativity and unusual skills and ways of using parts is very imperssive. This gives Daniel Jassim something to think about. I'm a bit concerned about the interior, but the difficult angels and the fact it is a warship with fighter bays, kind of narrows it down. The curved section on the right side with windows could be nice to see from the inside. MOC of the year!!!
Thanks! I've added some more photos of the interior, as it was not covered very well by my first photoshoot. The ship is entirely old gray. I only use Bricklink when I need something specific. I purchased most of my collection used on ebay. I have some photos of the techniques (including the curved section in front) here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/blake-foster/sets/72157625977732837/ |

I think I've seen a picture of the front part last year at classic-space.com and I was like ''Oh man, this is going to be a masterpiece''. I'm glad to see the final version of the ship. It would be cool to had a picture of the interior of the front part because it's really impressive. It also would have been nice if the Manticore could have carried more fighters. It would have give him more firepower but I understand why you did this.
Thanks! I've added some more photos.

Yes, finally you came out from your hide:-) I been watching your work on The Manticore at Flickr, where the building progress pictures are and was blown away. Tt seems like you nailed it big time, creating a assymetric shape and still kepping it sleek. The front beam blaster is very detailed, greebles and SNOT are well executed. It's funny to study your skills and see what you have for us spectators. I can only imagine how you got the different shapes and which parts you used. I can understand that you are in the engeneering business and is very creative. Did you create a skeleton to buils from, using technic parts? MASTERPIECE:-)
Thanks! The ship has Technic frames in both the floor and ceiling. The floor also has three layers of solid brick, to keep it from breaking in half in the mid section (due to the fighter bays, it has no wall on the starboard side and very little interior support). The bridge is build with click hinges and flex tube. The Destructor Beam is built out of rings of click hinges. The curved section on the port side is built out of hinge plates and flex tube. I have photos of some of the techniques here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/blake-foster/sets/72157625977732837/

Blake, this is a fantastic MOC. I hesitate to use the word 'elegant' to describe a warship, but to me, that's what it is. The size, flow, concept and details all come together in a wonderful way. I could see this out in space. The fact that you also made it mini-fig scale with a real interior add so much. PS- looks like a couple of old school space figs in the bridge, right?
Thanks! You're right, the pilots are both Futuron figs, albeit with newer heads from the SPIII line. One of them is a cyclops. |
