VL-1000 Thanatos (Death)
The new Stealth carrier-capable twin-engine 5th-generation hipermaneuverable strike-fighter aircraft
About this creation
The Fighter

The Vila-Desparador VL-1000 Thanatos (in Greek Death) is a single-seat, carrier-capable twin-engine 5th-generation hipermaneuverable strike-fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology.

The fighter's primary missions are fighter escort, fleet air defense, suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD), anti-shipping, air interdiction and close air support.

The plane is almost a Stealth version of the russian Sukhoi Su-33. Of course, its not a perfect 5th generation stealth fighter, but even so, I like the plane!

Great care has been taken in designing its layout and internal structure to minimize RCS over a broad bandwidth of detection and tracking radar frequencies; furthermore, to maintain its VLO signature during combat operations, primary weapons are carried in four internal weapon bays that are only briefly opened to permit weapon launch. Furthermore, stealth technology has advanced to the point where it can be employed without a tradeoff with aerodynamics performance, in contrast to previous stealth efforts.
The Thanatos has four separate internal weapons bays, two on the bottom and sides of the fuselage.

It can carry twelve compressed carriage medium range missile in the center bay and one short range missile in each of the two side bays.

Carrying missiles and bombs internally maintains its stealth capability and maintains lower drag resulting in higher top speeds and longer combat ranges. Launching missiles requires opening the weapons bay doors for less than a half a second, while the missiles are pushed clear of the airframe by hydraulic arms.

This reduces the Thanatos chance of detection by enemy radar systems due to launched ordnance and also allows the VL-1000 to launch long range missiles while maintaining supercruise.

The Thanatos also carries a large ENA-75 75mm mm automatic cannon.

While in its air-superiority configuration the VL-1000 carries its weapons internally, it is not limited to this option. The wings include at least ten hardpoints, four of them rated to handle 5,000 kg anti-ship missiles. However, use of external stores compromises the Thanatos stealth, and has a detrimental effect on maneuverability, speed, and range (unless external fuel is carried).

The two inner hardpoints are "plumbed" for external fuel tanks. These hardpoints allow the mounting pylons to be jettisoned in flight so the fighter can regain its stealth after exhausting external stores. However, some missiles, like the D.D.N. are stealth; thanks to this, the Thanatos can attack enemy warships while keeping himself stealth.

Hope you like it!

Hmm how did i miss this one... That is a cool plane, nice design and great work on those missiles and bombs! Very nice features too. All studs doesn't matter, SNOT work can be a problem when working with keeping the shape as intended :-)

Quoting Marc dZ Despite all the comments pushing you to more details and neat surfaces, I would keep in mind all the stunning work made for the great design and the weaponry: What a beast at the end!!! The folding wings and the battery of various AIMissiles are just incredible. The last pic is a delight. The only (technical) thing I would discuss is the internal cannon's caliber... 75mm?!? OMG, its blast should strongly shake the jet, don't you think? ;) I use those BT pins as "20mm" machine gun.
I also use the BT pins. But here, its an autocannon, a single barrel gun with a low rate of fire, but used to destroy tanks and bombers. Thanks again

Quoting Josh Guilbert I know the J-20 has canards but the plane is the worst stealth plane.Canards=unstealthy conformal canards=stealthier
The chinese arent stupid. Probably its even stealthier than the F-22. The thing is, what the Americans say, everyone believes.

Quoting Josh Guilbert Yo J I know this only a lego creation but for it to be stealthy you would need to have no canards or conformal canards to make ti stealthy.
Well, the new J-20 chinese stealth fighter has canards. So does the Thanatos.

I love the professionalism to the story, the design of the fighter, the clever usage of Adobe PhotoShop, and the very impressive ways of you hiding all of those missiles and guns. However, with that being said, you could use some more experience with greebling (that is, detailing your aircraft in a more realistic manner), making the aircraft SNOT (LEGO Studs Not On Top) in form, and making it a little more angular, as a real aircraft should be formed. The Republic Gunship (i.e., the non Clone Wars version) has an excellent alternate design for a fighter craft that might prove to be an inspiration to improving your quite impressive fighter.

awsome but its really not stealthy because the gun isnt housed in the body of the plane same with your external weapons. There for making your plane not stealthy but semi stealth is a possiblility.

Is this a real plane? I did a google search and couldn't find it. Even if it isn't it is still compleatly awsome! Really great job, I like all the internal weapons bays. I have made a airplane too, The Hornet-Fire BT III, mine isn't a jet, it's a prop plane.
