This 16x16 vignette is based of a classical book. 'The Count of Monte Cristo' was written by Alexandre Dumas around the time he wrote 'The Three Musketeers'. It is an epic tale of revenge and (I hate to say it) love, but is one of the more classic tales. If you have not seen the [newest] movie or read the book, I highly suggest it!
About this creation
In the story, Edmond Dontes living in 1800's France when he is falsly betrayed! He is accused of carrying heretical documents from the exiled Napoleon by his close friend; he only wants to steal Edmond's girl. :(
Edmond is then sentenced to life in prison - Chateau D'If, a lonely cliffside detainment. When he arrives, the lord of the prison whips Edmond, and does at the start of every year Edmond remains in prison. Thus Edmond builds a hate for the friend who sent him to the god-forsaken prison and builds his plot to exact revenge! MWAHAHAHAH!
This is such a pivotal scene in Edmond's life...It had to be made into LEGO! So I present - The Whipping: From the Count of Monte Cristo.
This is zoomed in on Edmond Dontes in the corner. Don't be alarmed. I didn't actually draw on him. I'll explain later. The angry Dastan face represents the brewing revenge plan he draws up because of his suffering. And the unkempt hair is Dastan's also. That hair is good for everything.
This is the vignette without figs. The rat in the corner is going into his hole, and you will notice the old gray is used at floor level to show the discoloration of the slime/water line in a real prison. The peturbations in the floor eventually get ripped up by Edmond when he digs his way out of the prison. The door at an angle was difficult to achieve, but I am satisfied with the final result.
This is the master of Chateau D'If and the guard. These are pretty self explanatory but the face on the whip-master is from the Stormtrooper Battle pack. It looks devilishly deceptive.
And finally, Edmond. His torso has scotch tape on it (which I drew on) and the rest is previously explained.
I hope you enjoy this, even if you are not familiar with the story. Please rate and comment!
