An emperor class mecha. Fully articulated.

My most recent and greatest achievement to date. This project happened in two halves, the upper torso was built in a night, then the corresponding legs and feet were built over the course of 2 nights some 2 months later. I started out with the intention of making it only 5" or so but it kind of grew and grew to what you now see.

Strangely enough the inspiration for the whole mecha came from the wheel arches on the feet. I decided I wanted a mecha with wheeled feet that were larger than your average, so I built the feet first, then skipped straight to the torso without doing the legs. I swear my brain is not wired right!
Rather than rebuilding everything several times I decided to lay out every white piece I had infront of me and build like a jigsaw, trying each piece until I found the one that fitted just right. It is a VERY slow process! For example the head is only 8 bricks but to get them together to give the look I wanted took 2 hours of mix and match!

The joints that made up the fully poseable body were not overly complex but were solid and sturdy and gave great articulation. Again largely due to my jigsaw approach I was able to find the right pieces that gave the desired look to the bodywork without restricting the flexibility of the frame beneath.
Even with the weight of wings hanging off the back he was very stable and quick to pose. The ankle joints for once worked perfectly, they could pivot freely but when weight was applied they held their position, even when the model was knocked.
When I finally can bring myself to break it down I will photograph the underlying frame for reference, but don't worry, there will be a few more photos done before that.

The wings were a strange twist of fate. I was searching for white pieces when I happened to note four grey wing pieces that my 4 year old daughter had clipped together in a funny way just laying on the top of the box. I held it up to the model, squinted a bit, then spent an hour and a half trying to find a way of making it work. I'm still not 100 per cent happy with them but it is something different I thought.

I must apologise for the lack of big guns. My best pieces are all tied up in models at the minute, but further pics will follow to fill this void.

The final family photo shows a teaser of the rest of the battle group which will be posted over the next few days as I find time. It was all photographed over one sleepless all-nighter and generated 200 plus pictures which all need touching up and resizing so it will take time and I am currently knackered.

P.S.
I AM trying to build an instruction set for this but it will be a while coming so don't hassle me, just be patient. All good things come to he who waits.

I've always loved this mech. I wanted to thank you personaly for getting me into mecha, this mech is the first mech I ever built (thanks to the instructions) so again, thank you!
