Moonbase Module - Exploriens Hanger - built for the Moonbase project on TSL 2006 in Berlin, Germany
About this creation
My Exploriens built this Hangar Moonbase module to maintain, repair and refuel their A-1 Starfighters (see other MOCs). It has two corridor connections (L-shape).
This is currently my favorite Moonbase module. It is great as standalone model, but unfortunately it has some weaknesses when used in a big Moonbase layout like at 1000steine-Land 2006. It's not possible to look into the hangar from different angles. Only one line of sight provides a good view. The others are blocked by the three high walls and the massive roof.
I have to modify the building and add a third corridor, so that the module is more flexible to integrate into a Moonbase layout.
And even that I like the roof very much, I might replace it with a trans-clear construction.
View from the front. The tiles reach to the border of the baseplate, because I had a ramp to a landing platform module in front of it. But I disassembled the platform in the meantime.
The roof. It's build with half-pipes from the snowboarding sets. I actually started the module building the roof as I tried to find out what I could do with all those half-pipes :-)
I think this is one of the best moonbase modules I have seen. As far as the color on the roof goes, maybe some black tile sections to suggest solar power generation? Plus it seems to me that you have enough room to put a floor through the middle, or at least a mount, to accommodate a second ship.
thats very good...the only thing that is a bit seird are the big lights on the roof radar...and also i regret you didnt use good old dark blue trans for windows and neon green trans like the exploriens scheme do...great use of snowboard ramps! nice grey structures on the side!
