James had always wanted to build a dekotora, but it was just way too expensive to afford on his burger-flipping salary. But he did have an old ten-speed bicycle...it was time to "get his chrome on"!
About this creation
For the Lethal Donuts entry for the 2011 MocAthalon Category 23. What’s On Your Dekotora?

Jakes took his new ten-speed dekotora out for a test ride through the park. Unfortunately, James never really learned Newton's First Law: "An object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by a greater force." While going down a hill, James tried to apply his brakes, which unfortunately for him, were not "a greater force" than his bike's weighty bling and its momentum.

BAIL!!!

This is why you don't build a dekotora out of your bicycle.

I had a lot of fun researching this category. There are some crazy contraptions out there, but when I saw a bicycle version of a dekotora, I knew I had to give it a try.

After a few test and attempts, I finally came up with a solid base layer to attach all the bling. Lots of lights and chrome pieces (luckily all housed in the same drawer). And of course, I had to use the power-miner figurine that was decked out in chrome as well.

A quick shot of the top in order to view all the bling.

And of course, one last shot, the obligatory "rear shot".
More to come for the MOCAtholon. Keep building, my friends.

This is great, however not within the category. 1 point for the coolness of it though. |

I do not want to do this as it is a great build and a clever idea, but nowhere near the category, your score = 1 |

Not to take away from the build, but as Chris said, we were quite strict with the category description on this one. Very nice though. >> 2 points << |

Quoting Chris Phipson
While this is HILARIOUS and a fun take on the idea, we've been saying all along that it really needed to be a truck. Non judge response is "This thing is AWESOME!" but my judge response is, score of 2. It's just not in category but you did make me laugh. ~ Chris.
DOH! Completely missed that in the FAQ's. My bad. |
