The Explorien Empire Office of Expansion reveals the sharpest tool in its galactic conquest shed.
About this creation
Pandion starfighters help extend the sharp, pointy hand of the Explorien Empire into the furthest reaches of space. Their superior speed and maneuverability allow them to fly circles around enemy fighters and effectively strafe ground targets with their two heavy machine guns.
The fighter has a vertical design like the Rebel Alliance B-Wing, but it has an enormous sensor array extending forward from the cockpit, giving it a more traditional appearance. Some of the sensor elements are prone to overheating so the array is left largely exposed; the Pandion's speed and maneuverability more than make up for the lack of armor.
Builder's Notes
---------------
The front sensor section is sort of a ridiculous tangle of SNOT. It holds up to a reasonable amount of play but shatters spectacularly on impact. Like I often do I made a preliminary sketch before building (this sketch has actually been around for quite a while, since Summer 2006 I believe), but the resulting model looks like the sketch only in general shape. Someday, maybe, I'll scan some of the sketches I've made to show you guys.
Pandion was announced as my 200th post on CSF on January 12th, 2007 (my 19.5th birthday). I originally intended to announce it alongside a black starfighter of similar design in a thread called "Good & Evil: Two Starfighters". Unfortunately the Evil starfighter was only about one-third finished by the time my winter break was over, so I announced Pandion alone.

Guess what, guys? I'm finally changing my collection over to the more practical sort-by-shape method. I like it so much more!

Man was it tough to come up with a stand for this thing. It's extremely back-heavy, but then there's that fin beneath the back section... Yeah. It was tough. This was the best I could come up with.

Hey, this thing has odd width. Mostly 7-wide. That's something I've never done before.

This picture really gets my adrenaline going, I tell ya.

This here's the armored side. It's made from...indestructible...ium. Indestructiblium. Painted white.

The pilot is hiding beneath the smooth part in the back. Yeah, there's a pilot.

Ooh, the engines. They look nice. This isn't a great picture of them.

Basically that's just a mess of sensor greeblies. They're full of essential vitamins and minerals (like indestructiblium!)

Once again I didn't bother to make a hinged cockpit door. I really need to get to work on those sort of playability aspects. That and landing gear.

He told me he'd look more heroic if he looked over to the side. I told him whatever, as long as I got paid.

Hey Dan. I like this fighter's complex shape, and the sensor nodes are cool, too. Hmmm... Indestructibilium... never heard of it before, but hey, who cares? : ) I'm glad you stared sorting your collection by color now. It's the way, I've beeen doing it ever since I started sorting it. I find sorting by color impractical because you don't know how many of what kind of piece you have, you only knnow what colors you have. Anyways, this is a nifty little fighter. |

great design and nice color scheme! actually the best method to sort bricks is by shape and color group: for example i sort red, dark red and brown together, yellow orange and light orange and tan together, all kinda blues and greens together and so on...its really efficient! |
