Dr. Smith: "Yours not to question why; yours to do as I say or die." - and in space you usually do just that.
About this creation
2011 MocAthalon! "Lost In Space"

I took a different road on this theme by depicting our space explorers as dead and gone. Only their bones remain.

The idea was to create a "core sample" of an aquatic world. I wanted it to be understated and not overpopulated. Second I wanted the creatures to be obscured and beckon the viewer to peer into the middle much like a tidal pool.

In the end I think it comes off a bit boring. The creatures are too obscured to read unless you go and look into the middle. Also the model on the whole doesn't really come across in photos. The bit on the outside was supposed to break the plane and add interest, but I think it failed and just looks out of place.

The view top down into the center.

The scavengers above the dead.

A closer view of the dead.

A strain of jellyfish.

The larger of the creatures, presumably the male as it's larger and more ornate.

The female creature with more understated marking and tail.

Another scavenger and presumably the last survivor based on his spacesuit being intact.

There is no reason a model has to be fully conveyed in a single picture. This one is well worth exploring in detail. I interpret the male and female forms of the fish reversed.

Please forgive the "putting my model down". My intent was to give it more of an artistic critique. We'll save that for the non-competition stuff then shall we? Thanks for both the feedback and the wonderful score!

I want to give you a 1 for putting this build down! but don't worry I am not that cruel. Here is some advice and please everybody listen to me: when you submit a moc for a competition present it to us as though it is your greatest creation ever (even if you despise it!) because when you say you don't like what you have done with this bit, or the way you made this bit didn't work so well etc, all that says to us as judges is, "well, you obviously didn't try hard enough!". An artist is never truly happy with their work, but the viewer will see amazing things in your art that you can only critique. This moc is BEAUTIFUL! It is stunning. My jaw dropped when I opened up the page. It well and truly deserves top marks. 5 points.

I disagree with your assessment on the look from the outside; I love how it obscures the creatures yet shows off a lot of detail in the silhouette. The water color is mesmerizing.~H

Can't believe no one else has commented on this yet. I think you did an outstanding job on this MOC, the aquatic environment is well executed and 'out of the box thinking'. The organisms are intricate, believable, and an excellent use of bionicle pieces. Bravo sir, bravo.
