Ferrari F40 LM
It's the first time I've posted 2 MOCs in one day...and don't expect that to happen again. Here's what you waited for: the legendary Ferrari F40 LM.
About this creation
Before I started building it, I thought, "It doesn't look too hard. I can probably finish it in a week or so." But after struggling with it for about a month I can tell you that this is not an easy car to build at all (unless you're Sven Bode & Jens Matuscheck or Firas Abu-Jaber). Actually, this isn't my first F40. The first large scale car (14 studs wide) I ever built was a F40...but it wasn't that good. Later, I built it again. I left my comfort zone so I built this 16 studs wide...this is the biggest car I've ever built. It's 16 studs wide, 38 studs long, and it weighs 2 pounds and 2.7 ounces.

Most people think that the Ferrari F40 was built mainly to celebrate Ferrari's 40th birthday. But it really was mainly built to compete with Porsche's 959 which was the world's fastest production car until the F40 was built. The Ferrari F40 has a top speed of 201 MPH while the LM version has a top speed of more than 225 MPH. The LM version was built in the late 80s and was raced in the GT class where it was an instant success. Both F40s are powered by a 2.9 liter turbocharged V8.

The front view. This was probably the hardest part to build, partly because I built this car 16 studs wide. I must have rebuilt the nose 5 times and a countless number of modifications.

The side view.

The rear.

Unlike the "regular" F40, the LM has 2 exhausts instead of 3...which, for me seems odd. You'd think that race car= more power= more exhaust.

Details

Vents.

The sponsors: Acer and Shell.

The rear view mirror.

Air intakes.

I used some electrical tape for part of the black belt line.

The doors can open.

The engine cover can open. This was the 2nd hardest part to build on the car.

Here's the "engine." You'll find out what the battery pack is for later...so you'll just have to keep scrolling down...

You can see through the rear vents.

Everything is open.

The bird's eye view.

The interior has everything you could ask for...just don't ask for air conditioning, power windows, cushioned seats, carpets...etc.

Here's the battery pack again.

Here's how I squeezed it in.

Here's the moment you've been waiting for! It's got power lights!

Lights are essential for racing at night...

Here's how I did part of the wiring.

Here's a size comparison with my Maserati Gran Turismo Convertible.

Here's a few pictures of it next to my Ferrari Mosaic.

Quoting MortalSwordsman . Hi LBJ. I still love this creation - i wish i had some working headlights like this. There is a big 4x4 technic model with headlights I have my eye on. But the new VW camper is coming out soon. So much lego not enough money. I am also very jealous of your new wheel order - they are perfect for F1 cars. Wrist is a lot better but still cant work :( hopefully tomorrow or the next day.
I got one of the two lights from a Bricklink store - it wasn't cheap...I think it's was 3 or 4 dollars. I doubt I'll buy the VW when it comes out...it'll probably be too expensive for me. Haha I got the wheels Friday and boy, were they HUGE! Even the wheels that I used for my Beetle look small now! Thanks for helping me out again!

Quoting Preston the car nerd this is the best moc I've seen on here! I really like the lights and the air inlets and outlets and i like how you used fences for the rear grille.....By the way, the real beltline on a car is the bottom sill of the windows isnt it?
No, it's not.

One of my favourite cars of all time, the F40. You did an excellent rendition, considering that the car is trickier to build than one might think. I really like the lights, but it's a big sacrifice to make with such a big batterybox. Now unfortunately there is no space for a nice detailed engine, but I guess it's impossible to have it all... Anyway, great job!

Amazing! The power function lights really add to this, I like how you made the lights, too. Also, making it 16-wide was definately the best way to go, that's pretty much how wide I make almost all of my cars. Overall a great model! 5/5

Well, the pieces I used for steering were just ones I had in my collection; I'm not sure where they came from originally, but check bricklink, they should have anything you need. I hope you can get it to work with the steering wheel, mine didn't mostly because I wanted more detail under the hood and on the inside. Good luck, I'm sure you can make it work, just try different things until it works!

Quoting Ryan Link An Enzo would be great! I'd love to see it...To answer your question, mine has wheels that pivot side to side, but they are not actually attached to the steering wheel, I was originally going to make it work, but just couldn't fit it in. However, my Saleen S5S Raptor has working steering, if you look at some of the pictures you can see just how it works. Hope it helps!
I haven't started building it yet and I probably won't start building it for a while. If I build it, I will most likely take my Maserati apart to build it. Did you get the pieces for the steering from a set or did you buy it separately? If you bought it separately, where did you get it? BTW Do you think I'll be able to build it with steering that connects to the steering wheel? Thank you.

Excellent work, I think the F40 is one of the best Ferraris ever built! I think the angle of the windshield looks a little too low, but other than that, it's a great model. LOVE the headlights!

Instantly recognizable, and great quality build. I love how it looks and that you included doors, opening parts and still had lights and all. I looked around for the exhaust and gathered that it was to be more even without a muffer. the regular f40 muffler has 2 lines in and it splits the exhaust to three.now the f4o gt seems to have headers that leave 2 lines per side that then combine to the one per side in the end (2 total) i am guessing on rather minimal pictures, but that is my bet.

Congratulations on your best creation yet! You've improved a lot lately since your last car, your previous model was good; but this is more than amazing, instantly recognizable, and great job with all the details like the working elements, the air intakes and the power functions... You're on the right path, keep it up.

All right, I've been waiting for this one! Way to go, you really got all the details down, and it looks fantastic! Working lights, just great. I really like the front, from the very first picture you can see the F40 in it. Such a great car, it's always fun to see how other people build it. Keep it up!
