About a year ago I was looking online for a minifig display case. Ultimately, I decided on purchasing a “144 Shot Glass Shooter Display Case” from a seller on eBay for less than $200.00. I built three-tiered display racks out of black plates for each shelf and can store 54 minifigs per shelf and holds ~648 minifigs on 12 shelves.
Do your shelves go 3 studs new tier, 3 studs new tier, 3 studs new tier; or 4, 1, 4. I can't tell in your pictures. I was also wondering how the display handled dust. I have found the display you used I'm just not sure if it's the one I want.
The shot class shelves are ~9 studs deep. I used 4x8 plates on the bottom and built up the displays from there. Each step/tier is two plates higher than the one before. The number of plates needed per shelf would vary based on your design and type/size of plates used.
Hope that answers yout question.

I was wondering how many black plates I would need to get to make the 3 tier displays on each shelf. I collect star wars minifigures and your display is one of the best I've seen.
