I'm doing this in stages, mostly because it's taking forever to edit the text (so much for a quick guide).








ok, here is a quick tutorial on creating simple figures that can be posed. This technique can be used to create a variety of mecha and character designs.

Note A lot of people use this type of joint, so if you see it elsewhere they probably came up with it the same way I did.

first you will need the following to make a basic t-bar arm.

1x1 plate with holder (2 for each joint)
1x1 plate with upright holder (I use these for hands on the basic designs)
1x1 round brick (you will need one for each joint*)
1x1 angular brick (sometimes called a headlight brick*)
1x1 brick with 4 knobs (1 for each joint*)
t piece (1 for each joint)



*note the way this joint works any piece with a knob with a hole in it large enough to fit the t piece will work. I'll show variants below.

Firstly you will need to form the basic joint, for an arm you will probably need 2 of these.

This is done by placing 2 1x1 plates with holders on opposite sides of the 1x1 brick with four knobs and then inserting the t part of the t piece into the two holders. as shown below.



next you can add the 1x1 round brick. if we are calling this a shoulder then the round brick is the bicep, if we are calling it a forearm then the round brick forms the wrist. In either case it needs to be added facing away from the t piece as shown below.



note that the t piece and 2 places with holders can be places either on top, on the side, or underneath the brick with four knobs.

To form an arm duplicate the last two stages and use the t piece to join the two joints together to form the arm, as shown.



now add the angular brick to form the shoulder and the plate with upwards holder as the hand as shown.



now as I said before you can achieve a similar joint system using alternate bricks. Here is a version using only bricks with four knobs.



legs are very similar, but instead of using the plate with upward facing holder to form a hand, use another t piece to form the ankle, then add a 2x1 plate with 2 1x1 plates with upward holders like so.



next the torso.

the simple cyberagent torso doesn't bend at the waist or neck, but does turn. this is achieved by having a simple stud to hole joint. The very simplest version is as follows.

1x1 brick with four knobs, round 1x1 brick, 1x1 brick with four knobs all stacked in a tower.

the shoulders attach like this.



now to form the waist I try to keep it smaller than the shoulders, so loose the angular 1x1 bricks and attach the t pieces direct to the 1x1 brick with four knobs like so.





Now just position the limbs to achieve a standing pose.








here it's shown with a basic head that can twist but not tilt.






as you can see the proportions are a little off and waist and neck articulation are lacking. here are a couple of ideas to fix this.











Again the proportions are slightly off, so we can extend the legs by adding and extra section to the thigh and/or shin.



now all that remains is to decorate the figure. So that you can see the changes I've used clashing colours.
