Mission 5 of the 457th Corps RPG: The Sphinx of Cularin.
About this creation
Mission 5- The Sphinx of Cularin
Mission Briefing: It was gone. Disappeared. Cularin left nothing behind but a vacant gravitational pull. Not until ten years later did the system suddenly reappear from our starcharts, just as unexpectedly as it had left. It seems impossible, but it happened. We are in no position to ponder over how one man or thing could hide an entire planet from the rest of the galaxy for that long of a period of time. All that matters is that we contain the planet’s power before it is conquered by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Since the Battle of Geonosis, the GAR has sent in several reconnaissance teams to examine the surface of the planet. Ever since, our scouts have made countless discoveries. The entire planet is rich in resources, strong in the force, and all around beautiful. The surface of the planet contains many vital minerals as well as the system’s moons. It was a vital reserve to the Republic, but just recently we’ve lost all contact with any GAR presence on the system. The blockade is not responding and we haven’t received any communication transmissions from the ground forces for several months. Nonetheless, our teams have caught sight of many operations unfolding on Cularin's surface - that of which are being handled by some sort of primitive race native to Cularin. Our main objective is to repossess the system as well as recover our missing troops. We need to find out what the hell is going on!
Mission 5.1- Evacuation
Mission Briefing: The Creator is failing. While attempting to navigate through the floating rock fields near the Kiallquis Mountain Range, we collided with a massive portion which damaged our engines. The rocks are being forced upon us. They're enclosing the cruiser, and our systems are no longer responding. The Creator is lost. If our troops do not evacuate soon, the will soon be crushed by the massive fragments. You will need to open the hangars or the airlock - anything that will let you off the ship. Make your way upon one of the floating rocks and hold your position - our Gunships aboard the Hellfire will pick you up in due time. We need to understand what is happening; where and why.

Coming here was a mistake, I knew it the moment the Creator collided with those floating rocks. The Creator was going down and we had to abandon ship. Raptor Squad and I found a view port by the Escape pods that allowed us to jump onto of the nearby rocks. We had to get out of there quickly as one of the escape pods had been crushed and the fuel ignited. Those Gunships better get here soon, something just isn't right about this place.
Mission 5.2- On the Rocks
Mission Briefing: The light gravitational pull among Cularin most often fails to contain breathable gases within the system's atmosphere. This is causing a very thin line of oxygen to be present among the highest elevations in the system. Although the drifting stones which the current 89th are stationed upon are not found too high in Cularin's atmosphere, the air is thin and will cause you to suffocate if you do not descend soon enough. Take your men and attempt to travel between the crude bridges constructed of rock and vine while avoiding multi-species Reptavian native to the skies of Cularin.

Well since the Creator went down my spirits have gone down with it. The air here won't last us long and the gunships don't seem to be getting any closer. I led my troops across one of these vine bridges to a rock just big enough for all of us. The vines then snapped and trapped us on this rock. Then one of those flying-reptile creatures came swooping out of the sky- if Maz hadn't seen it I am not sure I would still be here.
Mission 5.3- Serpent Busters
Mission Briefing: As the Creator has fallen under its first bombardment, you are to receive assistance under your next assigned cruiser, the Sabre. The frigate has sent a vital brigade of LAAT/i gunships to escort you to friendly space throughout Cularin, but are unable to directly gallant you unless you reach the rendezvous point located at the surface. The only way to reach this point would be to descend upon a thick web of smaller rock fragments which are scarcely deposited below the more stable structures. Although it will already be difficult to move through the fragile paths, you may also have to avoid being picked off by Divto Serpents, whom have been residing within the lifted rock masses for years. They produce a quite venomous bite from all three heads, and can withstand the loss of one or two. In order to kill them, you will need to shoot at the center connection of the three, where the central brain is located.

The Sabre is en-route- we are finally leaving this place. It is almost a pity seeing as the 89th spent most of their time waiting on these floating rocks. My squad and I somehow made it down the rocks without incident until we reached the bottom. A huge Divto Serpent was waiting there. Being the Sergeant in charge I attacked first, severing one of the Serpent's heads. Its orange blood looked disgusting. After it lost one of its heads the Serpent burrowed under the ground, showering us with dirt as it went. At least I have managed to survive 2 missions in the corps.

Thanks, I didn't copy Flare and he didn't copy me- we are both members of the 457th Legion and were both put into the 89th Legion so we get the same missions. |
