Phoenix I
The Phoenix is a feature-packed space-ship, with several variants as colours and wings change.
About this creation
The Phoenix I is in dark red. First I would like to have the instructions of my MOC ready, then I will buy some bricks at bricklink and then I will build Phoenix II (in lime/green), Phoenix III (in brown/tan) and Phoenix IV (in dark blue/sand blue). But now I am going to "lego-rest", as building this moc took me more than a week of hard work.

I wanted the Phoenix to be a smooth fighter with many features for its size. So the wings have 2 possible positions, the engines in the back have 4 different positions, the landing gears (3 of them) unfold, the back compartment hatch opens up to release an R2-unit and the cockpit opens as weell and last but not least the two wings detach.

With this last features (detachable wings) I will built new wings in a new look, which in turn should change the looks of the ship as well. This time I did not use magnets.

Enjoy

The Phoenix from the bird view. Notice the position of the wings, as they will change.

The front view of the Phoenix.

Still the front view slightly changed perspective.

For me it was important to have an R2-unit placed in / on the ship, although it has nothing to do with star wars.

I wanted to built a ship by using the cockpit of the star wars jedifighter from episode 2, or was it episode 3? Anyway, its not an easy piece to use, if you want it to open up.

The back engines move into several different positions.

Right in the middle of this pic there is a wedge which by pulling back triggers a mechanism that detaches the wing. This feature is shown below.

Notice the new position of the wings.

Here it may be clearly seen that the wings move up and down.

In fact the hinges, allowing the move of the wings, are strong enough (a total of three per side) to hold the wing at its place.

Noticed how the front landing gears may be rolled inside?

Here is a view of the downside of the ship where the gears, including the back gear, are clearly visible.

Ok, now to open the cockpit you have to open up the back hatch first.

Here is the mechanism for the detachable wings. Pull the wedge back and...

   ... the wing is off.

The ship even stays stable with only one wing.

Here you have both wings deployed. I think this ship even looks good without any wings.

Here I have put the wing stabilizers into two different positions in order to show the possibility of changing the wings position inspite of having the detaching wing mechanism. That wasnt easy to build.

Here is another sequence of putting the R2-unit back, closing the hatch and the cockpit.

I wanted to include this pic to show the detail of the 'sort of a periscope' in the cockpit.

Very Cool ship. I am building a fighter with similar color scheme now that i was thinking about naming Phoenix so I did a search and found yours. Lots of great details and working functional parts that take so much more planning. Very impressive. Reminds me a bit of rebel alliance snowspeeder/ a -wing hybrid.

NIce, but it looks like a Jedi Starfighter from Star Wars...

This is great! It sorta remids me of my ships, so I have to love that! Keep up the good work, and I'd love to see the other color schemes.

Good color scheme and a good spin-off for the Jedi fighter. The only thing is it seems a little chubby for a Jedi fighter. It could almost be a heavier bomber version, and interchanging wings is an interesting idea.
