AG-32a Light Assault Aerial Gunship "Piper"
A light Aerial Gunship for troop support. These light agile aircraft are very fast and are capable of hovering in place. This is NOT an AEGAKS or connected with the Project.
About this creation

The AG-32a, or the "Piper", as it is known by infantry, is an agile, streamlined craft designated for troop support and anti-armor operations. The AG-32a was nicknamed the "Piper" by the troops because of the old saying, "And now it is time to pay the piper." The cockpit is completely enclosed in armor, though through a oneway vision coating, the pilot can see out as if looking through glass. It's controled using holographic manuel controls, touching the area where a control is projected will activate and operate the control. This type of system takes far less space and is less clumsy than physical manual controls.

The Piper's primary thrust is generated by 4 independent torque turbine engines, each able to gimble and rotate to augment its flight or to enhance manueverablity. The Piper is fastest when all four turbines are set to cruise configuration, allowing for fast stable flight.

The Piper is moderately armed, despite its small size. Under the foreward fuselage, which houses the enclosed cockpit, are a pair of autocannons. These guns can be set to fire in tandem, alternately, or seperately. Under the belly of the fuselage is a rocket rack for dealing with troublesome armor and emplacements. The rack holds an amazing 24 rockets for massive damage.

The aft of the Piper, showing an underside of the turbine engines which power this effective support craft. Also located under the nose is a large sensor suite used to augment the pilot's fighting capabilities.

A view showing how the engines are capable of rotating independently. A skilled pilot can do quite alot with an engine system like, but mobile craft like this one are usually reserved for skilled pilots.

As you have probably guessed by now, the Piper is a VTOL craft, but not only able to take off and land vertically, but also capable of hoving in place, giving the Piper the option of having a stable platform from which to fire its weapons.

When landed, the foreward engines rotate to form landing struts on which the Piper rests. The design was specifically created to harness the craft's center of mass for balance and manueverability.

CREATOR'S NOTES:

No real story behind this one really. I just wanted to build something different. It turned out very different than what I had in mind at first, but it ended out very well anyway.

I love seeing different stuff. Everything from the design to the color scheme. I like the white canopy. I wouldn't have guessed it was able to open and hold a pilot until I saw it.

I'm getting a couple of vibes from this one. The diagonal cockpit reminds me of R-Type and Einhander, and the brilliant blue-green color with white trims reminds me of a ReZEL (Google it). It's a really nice piece, if only because of the experiences it invokes.

Quoting Tim McCumber Awesome. Has a very Robotech feel to it. Great design and implementation.
You're right, it does have a Robotech feel to it. I hadn't noticed, but then again, I am currently watching Macross Frontier. I was probably influenced by that.

Quoting crash 703 Nice! Your ships are really sleek! Although it'd be nice to see you create one with a farther back cockpit.
Personally, I like having the cockpit at the front, but I'll have to give that a try.

Quoting Rabid Goldfish I get most of my parts at BrickLink. It's cheap and easy access to all the parts you could need. And as for the pilot, I prefer manned vehicles. I'm one of those who believe that in order for war to be humane, it must be fought by humans.
Yeah, I also like manned vehicles. I have a question; is the parts you get by BrickLink always in good quality? People sell these pieces, right?
Well, it's like this. When you buy parts, each vendor has his own "store". Each store has a score next to it, the higher the store, the more reliable they are, but the vendors themselves are generally very trustworthy. If you want the best quality, always buy new parts, but if it's a store you trust, used parts (termed lightly used with little to no blemishes) are often cheaper and more plentiful. It's really like anything else, you've got to shop around.

Quoting Thomas Gowen all your ships to date are awesome. you make good use of some of the bulky pieces. hope to see some new ones soon.
Well thank you. I'm glad you like them. Most of the time, I start with the intention to use a bulky piece and work from there. It's alot of fun to do that.

Quoting yama masa That's a very nice ship. I don't see that green often, which set did you buy? And I didn't know that there's a pilot inside. That is very very good ship.

Although the style of the build is my typical design, this particular model is operated using holographic manual controls. I should have said so. Thanks for asking.
