The Olympians
For Mark Murphy's contest.
About this creation

Family shot.

Zeus, lord of Olympus. The rain god, cloud gatherer and ruler of the sky. He Carried thunderbolts to zap those who fell from his favor. His sacred bird was an eagle.

Poseidon, second greatest of the gods and brother to Zeus. He was the king of the seven seas, and bestowed horses to mankind. He carried a trident, with which he would shake and shatter whatever he pleased.

Hades, lord of the underworld, was god of the riches and precious metals of the earth. He wore a helmet that made the wearer invisible.

Hera, queen of Olympus, and wife of Zeus. She was the protector of marriage and married women.

Hermes, messenger of the gods. He was the divine herald who brought souls down to Hades.

Athena, goddess of a LOT of stuff. Including agriculture, wisdom and civilization, she was Zeus’s favorite child and was the only one who could carry his lightning bolts. The owl was her favorite bird.

Dionysius, god of wine and revelry. He was the only god in Olympus whose parents weren’t both divine.

Aphrodite was the goddess of beauty and love. Where ever she went on earth flowers sprung from the ground.

Hephaestus, Aphrodite’s husband, was lord of the forge and fire. Among the perfectly beautiful gods and goddesses he was the only one that was ugly, he was also lame.

Artemis goddess of the hunt, and wild animals. Often depicted holding a bow and with hunting hounds in her wake.

Apollo, twin brother of Artemis, and god of music, light, truth and healing. Usually seen holding a bow or harp, I chose the harp (does it look like one?) since his sister has the bow.

Ares, god of war and not much else.

Some of this is directly quoted from “Mythology” by Edith Hamilton and “D’aulares’ book of Greek myths”. That’s what I used as my sources, as well as little bit of my own prized imagination. ; )

Great job but.....may I suggest changing the wording for Hera...I know what you mean but it kinda sounds like "she marries woman." Heh heh....yeah... But awesome builds in all!

These are stellar! They all have very nice combinations of people-parts, and the end product doesn't look at all fanciful or inaccurate, staying true to their descriptions.

@ Ryan, THANK YOU! The story with Demeter and Hades is contradicted. Some sources say Hades is an Olympian and Demeter is not. Others (Like Percy Jackson) say the opposite. Regardless I think it makes much more sense with Hades as the Olympian because Demeter is almost never mentioned in the myths (even though Hades normally only goes to Olympus once a year.)

Quoting Ryan Adams First of all, very nice representation of the Olympians in bricks, albeit Apollo was a bit weak, though you've heard that numerous times. Comments below: Hades was an Olympian, though his kingdom was of the underworld. I don't recall him being replaced with Demeter, because Demeter was his sister and was there before Zeus' other kin. The only "replaced" Olympian would be Hestia who gave her seat to Dionysus. Although there's a large chance I could be mistaken, I haven't been able to brush up on my mythology for a while, it's something I've been meaning to do... Great figs though.
Hestia did give up her throne to Dionysus but she didn't leave olympus, she sat at the hearth to tend the fire.

Quoting Bailey Joseph i can see why you won the contest ... but as the huge Greek myth fan ( ask me any question and i WILL know it) hades wasnt an olympian in the UnderWorld in his place was Demeter, Goddess of argrilculture. P>s have you ever read the Percy Jackson series? its a very good source of info even though the plot is fictional. i learned a bit.
Thank you! And no I have'nt read those books, but I have seen the movie. And what you said about Demeter is true, but the judges said to make Hades instead of Demeter.

Zeus: I like this and the eagle was a nice touch. 1 Posiedon: Good. I like the steering wheel. 1 Hades: This is awesome! 1 Hera: Okay, a little bit boring. 0.5 Hermes: Good, though I don't like the bare chest. 0.5 Athena: Different, but still follows Greek Mythology and I like it. 1 Dionysius: I like the grapes and the face you chose. 1 Aphrodite: The dress works well, and the flowers are good. 1 Hephaestus: Not ugly enough, but he is otherwise good. 1 Artemis: I don't like the torso or the face, but otherwise its good. 0.5 Apollo: The head looks to old, and that doesn't look like a lyre. 0.5 Ares: Your best! You have everything covered!1 Final score is 9/12! Good job!

OK Annie, remember that each Olympian gets a 1, .5, or 0. [Zeus: Great! good try on the eagle: 1] [Poseidon: Good, I'm not a fan of bare chests though, also your steering wheel is great!: 1] [Hades: Fabulous! He's probably the best Hades here! (though I like mine better :) 1] [Hera: very plain: .5] [Hermes: Good, I like your Caduceus and his helmet, again though I don't like bare chests: .5] [Athena: This Athena is very good though it's very different from most Athenas: 1] [Dionysius: Very good I like the grapes: 1] [Aphrodite: Good enough I like her dress and all the flowers: 1] [Hephaestus: good nice fire but the face isn't ugly enough: .5] [Artemis: not very good and I don't like that dress: .5 :(] [Apollo: His face doesn't look young and that also doesn't look like a lyre: .5] [Ares: By far your best and I think the best Ares out there. Everything including the face is perfect. The only improvement would be to add a dog :) 1] All in all My score for you is: 9.5/12

Sure go ahead!

This'll probably win the Olympians Contest for sure. The stands look intricate since they use the SNOT technique; it's also good that you manage to fit on some sort of prop on top.

Heaphestus is the son of Hera and therefore NOT a titan. Hera IS sometimes the protector of life (not in the case of Hercules or anyone who Zeus had "fun" with) but Persephone and Demeter are the goddesses of flowers and plants.

hera is also the protector of life, including plants and flowers. hermes is extremely fast,Hephaestus is actually a titan god, so he should be HUGE! Everything else is right on! I love all the minifigs, you made them really well! Fantastic. 5 on 5
