My LEGOŽ rendition of the Kalashnikov assault rifle!
About this creation
The Avtomat Kalashnikova Rifle, 1947 Model is the most widespread and reproduced assault rifle in the world. After replicating the Colt M16A2 (you can see it here), I decided to embark on the LEGO-construction of its deadly Russian counterpart so that I might have a small Cold War weapons assortment. With its distinctive curved magazine, angled stock, and exposed barrel/gas cylinder assembly, the AK is the most iconic gun in today's culture, a product of the Soviet Union that has become a symbol of revolution and, more recently, terrorism. I've tried to recreate one of the original 1947 models, which slightly differ from the modern AKM and other variants of the Kalashnikov. The LEGO creation's features include a removeable magazine (and spring-loaded magazine catch), range-adjustable gunsights, pull-back bolt, sliding fire-selector switch/safety catch, and pull-back trigger. The model is life-size and is another example of the possibilities present when building with LEGO elements.
[Overall Dimensions: 43.3" long, 2.2" wide, 10" high (from top of gun to bottom of magazine).] Total weight: 2.4 lbs. First completed on April 10, 2011; deconstructed on January 28, 2012.

[This picture shows the magazine being inserted as the spring-loaded catch moves to lock onto it.]

Have I understood wrong that you're quitting building these wonderful replicas? Or was it someone else?...
Oh no, I'm not stopping! (I'm just getting started!) I believe you're thinking of McJanbo Productions--Jan has announced that he's building one last rifle, the FN FAL, as a finale to his LEGO weapon-crafting, which he says will probably be finished around late 2011 or early 2012. |

Well Cole, that's one of the best ideas I've heard so far! I was thinking about an M14, but I think I'll try to build the FN FAL. Well, I had my 16th birthday, and I'm losing my interest in LEGO (sadly... Sorry to all my fans, such things happen.). I'm going to focus myself on making movies and taking photographs. I want to be a designer when I finish my school. Designing websites and stuff like that. But, I'll never forget the great time I've had here on MOCPages and YouTube (which I'll not quit with). I'll still be answering questions etc. And... I'll not break this last gun! I'm going to build it 1:1 scale, in original colors (so I'll most likely paint it) and glue it toghether. Maybe, yes, maybe, I'll release a pistol with instructions for my fans! Thanks for the good idea, Cole! Greetings, -Jan |

Cole Edmonson... YOU NAILED THIS ONE! Great! I was really stunned! If you got any idea's for a gun I can build next, please tell me. It'll be my last gun, so it'll be something big (assault rifle). Greetings, -Jan
Thank you so much for your praise, Jan! I'm sorry to hear you won't be building guns any more--what will you focus on now? As far as big assault rifle ideas go, I think that the time is right for someone to construct a good FN FAL; only a few people have tried building it, and the FAL is one of the more signicant AR's, having been used worldwide in countless conflicts. Whatever it is that you decide to build, though, I'm looking forward to seeing it! ~Cole |

Nice job on the magazine release and sling swivel. Bonus points for not mentioning "clips", Call Of Duty, and for mentioning the AKM. The brown bits on the stock; you didn't paint any of them, did you?
Oh no, the different shades of brown on the stock are due to my using a mixture of old and new brown bricks; this method helps give the "wooden" furniture on my weapons a more natural, varied look--no paint required! |

This is very impressive, very very impressive love the mag. How did you build the pistol grip like that I know the general idea but the rest is unknown, and is it strong. 5/5 keep up the very good work
I might add a picture of how the handle is built soon; as far as its strength goes, the grip allows the gun to be held with one hand from this point. Thanks for your interest! ~Cole |

That is super awesome. I especially like the spring loaded clip and the bullets inside it, that is very creative!
Thanks for the compliment! I want to clarify: The magazine itself isn't spring-loaded (the magazine catch is), and there is only the one cartridge on the top of the magazine; it's just for looks, to make it appear that there are more inside. ~Cole |
