Surfer
About this creation
A quick build for the new series 4 surfer... i've been wanting to make a decent wave out of slopes for ages, but have lacked the parts in the right colours until recently. I'm pretty happy that i managed to get some discoloured blue slopes, i think they work well in an ocean scene.

Quoting Master Shifu Leo J Stunning!
Thankyou, yr very kind! :)
Quoting Mister Bones Wait a minute....I recall commenting on this when you posted it, my comment never appeared, wonder what I said? Anyway, this is a sweet looking wave and I think the bloody placement is fine. You obviously know way more about surfing than I do, and I live in California. Too much time in Napa Valley I guess. Cheers!
Ah yes, MOCpages has a nasty habit of misplacing comments, that's happened to me once or twice too. Thanks for the feedback, i came to the same conclusion about the fig placement in the end too, i just have to go all around the houses to do it! xD (Did someone say over-analytical? *eyeroll*)
Quoting Eric W. Bar-none, best wave I have seen made in LEGO! I have seen them up close and used to surf (TRY)haha, and I have to say you did an amazing job shaping it and using the elements in a cool way.
Thanks heaps, glad you like it! :)

Quoting Timmy Kid You don't need to get better colors. This is the BEST wave creation on MOCpages! Even beating a larger one! ... What was it called again? ... Um, it involved Atlantis... Anyway, I think the combination of clear, light blue, blue, dark blue, transparent blue, transparent dark blue, transparent light blue, teal, and transparent teal is PERFECT! Although, no offense, but the surfer REALLY killed the color scheme. You could still put in a minifig if there was white sand slightly distant from the wave, THEN you could have the female surfer stand on the white sand, looking at the wave. But not a male one. That would kill the color scheme again.
Woah dude! That's high praise. I'm glad that you like my little wave. I might indeed make a larger dio with some ppl standing on the beach, we shall have to see. :) No offense taken with yr criticism, it's always good to get other ppl's points of view. I happen to think that the female surfer contrasts well with the blue. By the way, it should be "the male surfer", rather than "a male surfer" in yr second last sentence, if you are meaning the male surfer fig from series 2. Thanks again for yr comment! :)

Quoting Harry 863 Haha sweet. Please look at mine :)
Cheers. I had a look at yr page - yr customs look nice. Keep on bricking!
Quoting David Wang Cool, it's just like mine!! (Except my wave isn't so big and impressive)
Ah, i couldn't find a beach/ocean scene on yr page , so i can't comment on that. :( But thanks for yr comment anyway.
Quoting Kendall Fischer wow, really nice detail, and the wave design is perfect
Thanks! I wouldn't say "perfect" though, there are definitely things i'll change for next time! :)
Quoting killb0xx . you should add the male surfer when series 5 comes out
I think you mean series 2?
Quoting Deus Otiosus Yes, but the figure placement needs a bit work.
Do you mean figure placement or posing? I think the board placement is pretty right, personally, although i posiibly could have embedded the inside rail and tail of the board more into the wave itself. I might try that later. Perhaps the figure could be better posed also... As a goofy foot she is leaning back into the wave, which is correct, but for the head-on shot i changed the angle of the board slightly downwards and thus had to alter the pose of the figure to a more upright and front-on position, as if she is charging the wave. The fact that minifigs can't bend at the knees is a bit of a limitation. :/ Anyway, thanks for yr comment! :)
Quoting Bazinga Pie Nice. I like the water trail you added. The discolor doesn't look well to me.
Cheers. The discoloured bricks are actually one of my fav bits - i feel that they add a subtle colour variation. :)

thanks! :)
Quoting Steele Blade This is really cool! i like the trail she is leaving behind her ! mind checking this out?http://mocpages.com/moc.php/269127
Thanks! I had a look at yr spaceship, nice work there. Keep on bricking!
Quoting Ben Lubeck That. Is. Amazing.
Really? :o I'm actually quite surprised by how much this little build resonates with ppl, it's such a simple build - needs quite a few internal bricks and is very solid, but there are no whiz-bang techniques, it's all just good old fashioned studs-down bricking. Anyone could do it, given enough blue slopes. :) But i'm glad you like it anyway!
Quoting Christopher Baldacci The flexible trail in the water the surfer is leaving is brilliant, as well as the 1x1 cheese slopes speckled over the perturbed areas to act as foam and suggest a 3D, in motion feel. The discolored bricks add to the effect and the use of pieces is brilliant. And the off-centered feel of the wave makes the surfer seem as if she is in motion. 5 stars and a great vig!
Thanks man! I really am happy with the mix of colours that i have now, although i think a larger dio should have more roof cap pieces, as in edbeereis's lovely fortress moc: http://www.flickr.com/photos/erdbeereis/5661085007/in/photostream. I'd love to try to make a larger wave scene now, maybe a storm at sea?
Quoting Jake G. Dude you totally just took my idea!!!Very radical!!!! Surf's up;)
Ah well, it's up to you to make a bigger and better one then, hey? Go on, i know you can do it!
Quoting A minute ago ... Wow, very good, i like the wave! Nice job.
Thanks mate, glad you like it.
Quoting De Tomaso Pantera Excellent creation! What good is a surfer minifig without a wave? Love this creation well done!
Haha, yes, totally! Maybe i should build a snow one for the skier and the snowboarder also? :D Thanks for yr comment!
Quoting Athanasios Lazarou Sweetness! =)
Cheers!
Quoting Michael Rutherford The use of the colors is great. Very counter intuitive, but the result is wonderful!
Thankyou! It's interesting isn't it, what ppl find intuitive - sometimes a way of doing or seeing things becomes dominant in a culture (like LEGO forums!) and ppl think that it is intuition that leads them to build like that, but really it is learned? Like the idea that the sea is just blue tiles - but the sea is actually a lot of different colours and textures and interesting forms... Sometimes unlearning the way we see things is just as important as aquiring new knowledge. As a painter, i know i struggle with this every day. Anyway, thanks for yr comment! :)

Quoting Lwc guy Amazing!
thankyou :)
Quoting Oscar van der Beek Wow! You should have the Man Surfer dropping in on her!
As an afterthought, i did actually try to place the other surfer going over the falls in front of her, but i wasn't happy with the results so i scrapped it. I might try again on a bigger version, build it into the wave rather than just placing the board and fig like i've done here.
Quoting The Timinater ! woah! awesome detail! wave is brilliant, and love the trail the surfer is leaving!
Thanks! Yeah, the trail came out quite well i thought, although at some angles it looks a bit odd/blocky. Something to work on for next time! :)
Quoting Elk Guard Very nicely done! You really captured the shape of the wave well, looks great!
Thankyou! Yeah, i wanted a nice bulky swell, i think this worked well.
Quoting Iain Marsh 18th May 2011 - Big Wednesday ;)
Haha, but actually quite true! I heard on the news last night that Shipsterns bluff in Tassie was huge yesterday - that break was one of the models for my wave, good timing, hey? :)
Quoting cyborg jedi This is one the Greats!
Cheers mate. Glad you like it. :)
Quoting C. Alexander Clay ...You are seriously making me want to listen to the Beach Boys now...
