Note, the CAU reference relates to the fact that these designs are a consequence of the time travel events of the CAU-A universe and therefore are not part of the original time line. This is evidenced by the fact that events are occurring nearly 100 years out of sync from the original time line.
For most of 2011 (are we now into May?!) I've been reinventing old CyberAgent concepts using the new frames and building techniques I developed last year. But what I've really wanted to do for some time is start with a fresh new direction for the concept.
Set 100 years before the first CyberAgent series, the ProtoAgents are a team of artificial intelligences created to defend Earth against attacks from outer space. They are the prototype technology from which the CyberAgents will one day be created.
The emphasis here was to make something that looked less developed, less polished, but at the same time was very pose-able and had potential to be modified to create mission specific functionality.
One thing this design has which the majority of CyberAgents don't, is pose-able hands. It does however make it slightly harder to develop weapons. I may take the next version's hand design back a stage, depends on whether I can figure out a way for him to hold weapons with a stick handle.
posing wise, neck can bend forward and back as well as turn, shoulders have two side to side joints and one that can turn, elbows can bend and turn, as can wrists. there is a horizontal waist twist, but no bend, hips are same as shoulders, knees same as elbows. The feet and heel spur can be bent up and down and the there is an ankle twist and bend.
The design is also intended to be fairly light, which means most of those friction joints shouldn't go floppy, but as with any virtual design I can't be sure till (someone) builds it.
It is the early 22nd century. America has finally released its files on UFO encounters and the world knows that aliens, both benign and malevolent, have visited Earth many times. Fearful of a return of hostile alien invaders, the United Nations agrees to the creation of a specialist agency intended to develop counter measures should aliens ever return.
Early experiments produce sophisticated robots, practically self aware, programmed for one task, protect humanity from anything which is not human. However it is not long before they are brought into service. Roswell has awoken!
From the site of the original UFO encounter the world watched in horror as a horde of Alien war machines rise to wipe out mankind. But standing in their path are the ProtoAgents.
