These are the vehicles that were used in the Second Demonstration Race. They are much more customized than the first generation vehicles.
About this creation
Second Generation Vehicles
With most of the game’s mechanics firmly in place, following our first successful test play, we decided that now would be a good time to inject some character into the game. Mithryl and I decided to make each racer as unique as their teams were. It was a real challenge, since we had limits, both in terms of what we were allowed to do to the vehicles, and also what parts we had available.
Most of the second generation vehicles were derivative of their first generation counterparts.
6898-1A Ice Sat VA
Also known as the Ice Sat V or just the Ice Sat, the VA is the original, stock version of the vehicle, commonly used for survey operations in difficult terrain environments, but also had a number of stock modifications that made it useful in other roles as well. Its versatility and utility as a vehicle became famous throughout the quadrant. When the Ice Planet 2002 Corporation eventually went bankrupt, the Octan Corporation, the main funder of Lock N Load Racing bought up the rights to the vehicle, eventually introducing newer models over time, right up to the current model Ice Sat XI, a massive, long range survey vehicle.
This particular VA has been tuned for racing, and has been re-decorated in the traditional Ice Planet 2002 Corporation colors, in homage to the company that produced it.
In terms of its capabilities, it is a well balanced racer, with a good variety of strengths and weaknesses in its design. A good choice for a beginner to use in the game.
6898-1B2 Ice Sat VB2 “Lunatic Fire II”
This Ice Sat V started life as a standard VA with a an aftermarket flatbed cargo carrier modification. It used to be the property of an asylum on Dergis III. The VB was usually stored onboard the asylum’s cargo vessel and was used for transporting goods onto the ship. The vessel and the VB were stolen by the insane Hiram Brothers when they escaped the facility. The VB went missing over the next 5 years, reappearing as part of the Lock N Load Racing Circuit. Following a string of wins, the Hirams further upgraded their vehicle into its current form, the so-called VB2.
The Ice Sat VB2 is an excellent fit for the Hiram Brothers’ maniacal racing style and attack strategies. It is heavily focused on ramming and boarding maneuvers. The brothers equipped the VB2 with boarding ladders that extend out sideways from the vehicle, allowing them to easily cross the distance to another vehicle, and wreak havoc on its occupants. However, the VB2 is also a neglected vehicle, and tends to be in a poor state of maintenance. This gives it the tendency to break down or suffer critical systems’ failure at the least provocation.
6898-1C2 Ice Sat VC2 “Switchblade II”
The VC2 was a rebuild and upgrade of the original VC. The VC used to be a light APC for the Wert Military on Geris VII, but was stolen and modified for racing by mercenaries Quint and Eric when they deserted.
The VC2 is a powerful machine, having a military grade engine. It is also sturdily built. Team Mercenary added a pair of fold-down boarding ramps to the rear of the vehicle to aid in capturing and destroying other vehicles while racing. When not in use, the ramps serve to protect the vulnerable rocket assembly. The drawback of the VC2 is that its powerful engine can sometimes be too much for the chassis of the vehicle to handle, occasionally resulting in malfunctions or loss of control.
6898-1D2 Ice Sat VD2 “Proton Chaser II”
The VD2 was a custom re-build of the VD, which was, in turn built from scratch for entry in the Lock N Load Racing Circuit by Drs. Igor and Roger. Its planet of origin is unknown at this time.
The VD2 is a versatile vehicle, whose construction is focused on stable boosting and crane attacks. The crane assembly has been reinforced and the rocket booster assembly is well protected by a virtual cage of armor. Pressurized coolant lines, help keep the rocket booster stable, and helps to prevent fatal rocket explosions.
However, these upgrades have made the VD2 into one of the heaviest vehicles currently competing on the circuit, making it slow off the starting line
6898-1E2 Ice Sat VE2 “Gyrggl Sunrise”
Its distinctive green color is nearly as notorious as its non-human pilots, thus far the only ones participating in the Lock N Load Racing Circuit. The VE2 is a rebuild of the custom-built VE. The VE was originally a mining vehicle used on the high-gravity world of Ciern Alpha.
Gragg and Orok upgraded the VE2 to be as stable and aerodynamic as possible. Most of the surfaces of the vehicle are smooth and contoured. This also has the added benefit of making the vehicle difficult to board to do a lack of available handholds. The drawback of the design is that the vehicle is ill-suited to combat, and is better served by avoiding conflicts using the racer’s superior speed and stability.
