The very beginning stages of my large castle project which I expect to take a few years to complete.
About this creation
This is a sample and an intro to what will be many updates for this project.
Some of you may remember me doing a model called 'City Carvonea Cliff side entrance'? Well this is the castle I always wanted to build within the theme of City Carvonea.
I am doing preliminary designs in LDD, followed up by final designs in Solid Works. This is so I can keep you posted with high definition images of the designing process. My main reason for using Solidworks other than the renders is it will spit me out a complete list of the pieces I need and in which colour (some will know this as a BOM, Bill of Materials). This is so I can begin ordering pieces while still in the designing process.
So far I have completed the design of the external foundation wall - the castle is already using in excess of 9000 pieces!
The whole Castle is designed to be build in modules for easy transportation (one day when the real building starts happening. Once complete, I am expecting this build to use around 200'000 pieces, measure 196x224 studs of floor space, and close to 150 bricks tall.
I should hopefully have more pics in the next week.

Is one stud in your scale equal to 1 foot? Cause that seems realistic for a minifig... But you mentioned 8 and 12
1 stud = 1foot is realistic for floor area, but not for height. My scale is based on the height of a minifig being 1.8m(6foot). So 8 bricks high is 12 foot tall. |

haha, thanks but though I find it very interesting, designing my creations on software doesn't really work with me, still it's cool to know that it is being done |

You must be building something equally elaborate inside the walls ??!!....shall wait and see....
What you see here is a small section of the foundations for the main castle building. I will be posting the finished foundation either tonight or tomorrow depending on if I can get it finished tonight... :) Thanks. |

an incredibly fancy wall, but for the wall to look that detailed I`m just wondering what your actual castle is going to look like ?! You must be building something equally elaborate inside the walls ??!!....shall wait and see.... |

Reminds me of the game The Elder Scrolls, the cities are huge castles with cities inside them. Great job keep it up! :D |

yes, I use solidworks, an educational kit for school, it's an amazing program
Nice, I guess your not studying to be a forensic investigator then :P haha. Let me know if your interested in the part files and i'll try to work on it. |

REALLY AWESOME!!! I LIKE HOW YOU DIDN'T MAKE IT TOO BIG BUT MINIFIG SCALE!!!
I want to make it true minifig scale, most castles I see on the web do not have an 8foot stud, they are closer to a 12foot stud. So each level of ceiling in my castle is going to be 7 bricks high, with an 8th brick for the floor thickness. This also fits into the formula I am using for the module construction. |

and did you made that library yourself ? or can it be downloaded somewhere ?
Made it myself, so far it contains close to 200 different bricks, with another 100+ to be done.
Do you use Solidworks? I can upload the part files to my website (though that would take some time...) |

So.....should I order up on some 1x1 rounds now before you drive the price up to $1 each!! Just kidding, looks great already!
In short - YES! Haha, of the 9000+ pieces this already uses, 6.7k of them are 1x1 rounds. I only own around 7000 atm. |

wait a minute, so you're using solidworks to keep track of what pieces and their colors you'll need, does that mean you have some kind of library in solidworks containing all those pieces ? or do you work with objects you describe as having a certain amount of parts ?
I have a library of bricks containing colour configurations. I build up sub-assemblies and then use them. I can also configure the sub-assemblies to allow different texture on those walls, simply by changing what config a brick is set to. Each brick has just over 40 different colours configured to it, but I am only going to be using the colours that I know is available for each piece. The next few posts should hopefully showcase this a bit more. I have also considered adding a config to the sub-assemblies called 'simple', where I supress all the parts in the assembly untill the final rendering - for better pc performance. |

Oh! I just can't wait that long! This will be massive. I thought building my castle over the summer was a long time, but two years! I now must invent a time machine so I can fast forward to when this is finished! |
