AD-37B "SledgeHammer" Heavy Assault Bomber
The Edges Snythos Corporation's latest in anti-ship and anti-structure weaponry, the AD-37B "SledgeHammer".
About this creation

The AD-37B Bomber, loving refered to as the "SledgeHammer" by it's devoted pilots is a heavy assault bomber, designed for use against capital ships and enemy installations. This craft mounts the most destructive weaponry available for its size, and can be a real pain to pilot in the hands of someone who has failed to grasp the subtle of this powerful craft.

As is standard with all ESC strikecraft, the SledgeHammer is equipped with a pair of standard dogfighter cannon using SPRs. This is for basic defense only, as SPRs of this calibre wouldn't even dent a capital ship's surface armor. Mounted to either side of the fuselage are the launchers, compatable with various loadouts, and mounted to the belly is the smallest beam weapon ever produced by the ESC.

The SledgeHammer was built around the same fuselage as the AD-36R "Bowie", with the only exception being that the weapons systems are not ejectable like the sensor units for the Bowie. As such, the SledgeHammer uses the same exact engine configuration as the Bowie, with a slight improvement to speed.

The launchers mounted on either side are designed for various loadouts, from bombs that are ejected from the launch tube to miniturized Resonance Torpedos, which are designed specificly for use against heavy, thick armor plating. For anti-ship runs, the torpedos, miniturized versions of standard capital class torpedos, are utilized. These torpedos are topped with a special scanner unit that can read the armor's composition, and set the warhead to vibrate in such a way as to impact and smash through, much as tapping a diamond in the right place can cause it to shatter. Once imbedded, the warhead detonates, effective breaching armor on the first hit.

The belly cannon is the smallest beam weapon utilized by the ESC. Because of their primary restriction, heat management, beam weapons are nearly impossible to use within atmosopheric conditions, with the exception of the beamsabre which generates its own cooling field. While smaller cannons do require far less cooling that larger versions, this must be balanced between its secondary restriction, power consumption. Most craft simply do not carry a powercell large enough to support the use of such a weapon. That is why the SledgeHammer uses a Class 3 Powercell, instead of the standard Class 2 that nearly all strikecraft and ARTCS use.

To make up for higher mass, and lack of manueverability, the SledgeHammer uses two extra gyro-stabilizers located in the back of the launchers. These stabilizers aide the craft in manuevering, and can even be used to slow the craft, albiet not very quickly. The launchers themselves are very highly armored, as they carry payloads that are highly volatile.

CREATOR'S NOTE:

I hope that you could keep up with my explanation on this one.

I had a lot of fun designing this particular monster. Because the ESC focuses more on projectile and ballistic weaponry, particularly at such small scales, I thought it would be fun to "firin' ma Laza!" some on this one. Hope you guys like it.

Quoting Daniel Revanales What program did you use to make the backround? It actually gives your creations that extra quality that other don't really have. On another note, the SledgeHammer,Bowie, and the Ballista seem to share the same basic fuselage...Mass Production??
Yes, they're all mass produced craft. It's esier and more economical to use similar, if not the same, designs when making craft, and only change particulars for design specifics. As for the backgrounds, LDD 4.01 (not updated) stores null backgrounds which allows me to just load it into GIMP 2 as a layer with no background extraction.

Quoting JS Can Got a modular kinda thing going on, huh?
Actually, this one is not modular. It just uses the same basic fuselage. Mass production tends to do that.

Quoting Mike C I love the concept of this ship. I can imagine a squadron of these surrounding an enemy ship and the bombardment that they would unleash. Very sharp
Believe it or not, three SledgeHammers is considered an even match for a Geneva Destroyer.

You have done well on the "firin' of mah lazor" aspect of this, well done!

Quoting Max W. mmm... sciency-sounding stuff. Do you ever consider actually buying one of these?
Of course I do. But that takes money. Something I'm rather short on now.
