Made for the 2011 Bio-Thon.
Before Gringat was the Stormlord, before he even had much red on him, Gringat was... Young Gringat!

Kanohi: Zatth, Mask of Summoning
I've wanted to build Gringat for quite some time, and I finally got a Zatth, but I had no red fins for the back of his head. Turns out that Gringat's original had no head fins, so I decided that I could go one earlier than that and make a completely "stock" Gringat. Big, clean-looking armor, some lighter green to make Gat look younger, and very little red (I'm going with the idea that most of the red on Gringat is his own handiwork, and that his original Toa armor had no red) makes this Self-MOC "revamp" look like a younger, rookie version of Gringat. I think it turned out rather well.
Gringat: You're just making a lame excuse for not having my head fins.
Cody G: ...um, yeah?
Gringat: You didn't even ask me if you could make me, and now you're messing with my armor? Prepare to die.
Cody G: Oh snap...
Custom arms. These were pretty tough, seeing as I wanted to use the Metru forearms to make Gringat look similar to a more classic set, but I also wanted full pose-ability AND Rahkshi head shoulder armor to also give a nostalgic, old-piece feel. I think they turned out very well.
Leg design. Also a pain, because I wanted Rahkshi spine shin armor. I had to use a 3-piece leg joint system, immobilizing two of them with the armor. So Gringat's knees are a little high up, but his shins are curvy anyway so he looks just fine. Actually more than fine, in my opinion.
Back view. Notice how I made the Rahkshi-armored legs. Getting them on a Toa isn't easy.
His triceps have a bit of red in them, and the back of his right arm has a black fin, which foreshadows Gringat's future epicness.
The torso is pretty custom, but it's well-hidden. Gringat can kind of shrug his shoulders. :)

i like the squeletal structure, but, the color turns me off, i did nt know they even existed! maybe in setting the greens apart, and mixing one with grey as an army mech could look stunning, but, mixed together...i ll pass, color aside, it s very well balanced! it looks also very mobile, and poseable! great work cody! |

Nice, I think you pulled off the younger look you were going for. I like the shoulders, but the legs bug me. Anyway great mix of greens and the little bits of red look good too. |

Yeah I'm trying out a new, lighter blue background because my old dark blue background messes up the lighting even more. I think I still prefer white though. :p |
