Heinkel He111
This is my take on the German WWII bomber "Heinkel He 111" Like my other planes it's made in minifig scale but can't really hold minifigs.
About this creation

The Heinkel He 111 was designed in the early 1930s in violation of the Treaty of Versailles. Often described as a "Wolf in sheep's clothing",it masqueraded as a transport aircraft, but its purpose was to provide the Luftwaffe with a fast medium bomber.

Even though being obsolete in the later half of the war the plane was manufactured as late as 1944.

I have designed the bombing doors to be able to open and the landing gear to be retractable.

The Different Luftwaffe squadrons had different color patterns. This ranged from different squadron colors to the specialized colorpatterns used in the wide range of theaters and roles the medium bomber was used in.

Here an attempt at a different decal from the European squadrons.

And the almost entirely black night bomber version

And the mostly white version used primarily on the eastern front.

The Heinkel He 111 was often in serious trouble during the Battle of Britain

"Verdammt spitfire!"

Good work on the He-111. The nose detail is well done. This is a tricky aircraft to build right but you did a nice job.

Quoting eastpole . hey Anders, that is great news. I am really looking forward to your new instructions - also because I already have all the parts to build it :)
Now it has been uploaded. I have dealt with the issues in the main fuselage and it is quite sturdy except for the wings! Here you have to have a great deal of patience indeed, and it is a part that I would support with something if I was to show it in public. Now I haven't generated a manual in the LDD file. This is mainly beacuse I don't find that it is adviseable to use one, rather go by your gut feeling one pointer here is to build the plane in the following sections: 1-Central fuselage with cockpit and lower wings. 2-Tail section. 3 Upper wings. Then assemble the fuselage and finally (with great care)add the wings.

Quoting eastpole . I am also looking forward to seeing your own brick-built model :)
When I saw your comment I went on to building the model myself. I think I have gotten around most of the bugs and will probably post it by the end of the week. I will off course add a LDD file with the changes included.

Quoting eastpole . Hey Anders, I am very fond of your Heinkel 111. I am also looking forward to seeing your own brick-built model :)
Thanks for attempting one of my designs and for bringning attention to the problems. I was expecting some difficulties myself, but I can't really have a file here that doesn't work, so I will get to buiding the plane myself right away and then adress the problems.

Hey Anders, I am very fond of your Heinkel 111. I decided to start building it in real bricks. Unfortunatly your design is very unstable. The fuselage comes apart more than once during the building process. The engine-part is attched too loosely and the wings don't even grip onto the plane. Also the landig gear is only connected by one stud and will fall off. Before the build I was certain to come across a few design and stability issues just by looking at the step by step instructions. Yet I was hoping they would resolve in the building process. Your design or better your sculpting of a Heinkel 111 is still the best I have seen on the net. Yet, I am going to have to make a complete redesign to resolve the stability issues. I am also looking forward to seeing your own brick-built model :)

Quoting ....Alex .... Amazing...Pure work of art Plus, I gave you a shoutout of flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/malydilnar/
Thanks my friend, one thing though. I noticed that you used a photo of a real Heinkel. It's OK by me if you use one of the shots shown above. They can also be found on brickshelf http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=493740 if that's easier. Btw this plane is going to be made in real bricks, the last bricklink order should arrive this week. Another btw. this guys heinkel is in some ways better than mine http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=214652 just stumbled on it and thought WOW!

Quoting Henrik Hoexbroe Excellent. I like the colour-scheme. How did you achieve the small angle (tilt) on the wings¿?
Thanks. It´s made with "rocker bearing" pieces placed inside the engine section. The main challenge was, to "disguise" the joining part, so it would still look smooth. My main concern with this approach is if it will be stable on a real build.
