I'll call him Gus, 'cos I'm in that sort of mood...
Wouldn't you know it, Gus has lost his keys. Now what ?
'I know,' thought Gus, 'I'll call my friend Doris from the farm on my old mobile..'
Yes it is old, the size of a brick...
Nothing to do but sit and watch the world go by until Doris gets here..
'Hello Gus,' said young Jackie, 'Have you locked yourself out again ?'
'Just for a change, yes. Hi Lesley. Sweet baby. Is that the new McClaren* ?'
'Ha ha! Yes. It doesn't have a V12, though.. Jackie! Get off the road!'
'That's better. Now be quiet for once! Hello Gus. Doris on her way ?'
'You know it. He's a happy little fella isn't he ? Do you like having a little brother, Jackie ?'
'Yeah he's alright. He's fun to bury in the back garden..' #
'He's so cute. Did he come from space in the 1970s ?'
'I hope your friend comes soon.'
Good old Doris. She must drive that tractor at the speed of light..
'Hi Gus. Here I am to get you out of a fix again! Silly billy!'
'Good to see you Doris. Thanks. I thought you said you had a Porsche ?'
'I do, and this is it! Now then, let's sort you out..'
'...just.. a .. few.. more.. THERE!'
'Wow. Where did you learn to do that with a mobile phone ?'
'It's not a phone!'
'It looks like one..'
Yes.. until he does it again.
Excellent. Now Gus can get on with his day.
'Gotta hand it to you Gus. God loves a trier!'
'Ha ha! Cheers, Doris!'
There. I hope you enjoyed that - I'm taking a cue from ace people like Cyberfrank and El Barto in trying to weave stories into some of my mocs. And I've followed up a tip from Henrik Hoexbroe - he'll be able to spot which one...
Now for some views of the house. It's the facade only, I'm afraid, I'm not made of yellow bricks, you know..
It's 19th Century vernacular, taking a few pointers from the Gothic Revival and there's thousands like this all over the English countryside. They tend to vary in style and detail between regions (sometimes between one village and the next) but they all have a fine sense of proportion and are eminently habitable. Even though I'm a fan of early 20th Century Modernism, I'm very glad houses like this are still here. They are better in almost every way than most of what is being thrown up today.
A stained glass porthole window, fashionable for a while.. The hole in the eaves is for nesting birds. A good solid door with good solid cast iron fittings..
An intricate mosaic tiled hallway, too often covered with carpet or *shudder* laminate these days..
And here's the house as it should be, with life in front of it, in the varied shapes of the cast...
For my dear Gran, Doris, who is ninety and fabulous.
# This actually happened. Thankyou, big sis, for an incredible Christmas present! (a little late, I know..)
* McLaren make cars; McClaren make baby buggies. They are not related.
Hello indeed. You are blowing my staid image of you Nick. And I had just finished saying how you treat maxifigs right. Gus an old friend of yours, or your maxifig alter ego. I like the variety. Puts your appreciation of modern architecture on an informed footing.
ah! thanks nick! you know, with these big figs you re quite exclusive! and they are also very expressive! lots of movements! the house is great, but, since your last structures, i m not as easily surprised anymore, lol! it looks real good so sad that there is no interiors, the last structure s interiors were very impressive on some levels! and i d take a story from you any day! since you have a great sense of humor! all these funny comments you left me! lol! you show promise in that department as well nick! the bumpers were very funny too! lol! excellent work nick!!!
Beautiful house and hilarious story. Love the mclaren and Porsche jokes and the brick mobile phone. Mosaic floor is a really nice touch. Love it all. What are you going to call the folder this moc will be placed in? Barrett Homes maybe? Sorry Nick I couldn't resist it ;)*shudder*
I was beginning to think you could only make things with wheels ;) You've certainly changed my thoughts after this stunning piece of architecture. Very good little story too, made me chuckle more than once, love the little jokes (Mclaren and the spaceman) you have a gsoh lol
