Quoting Marty Fields Nice working model. I saw a large re-created trebuchet in action at Warwick Castle. It was very impressive, particularly when hurling Greek fire! It used a circular treadmill mounted edge-on to wind the armature back. A donkey should have been used, but that is not considered appropriate now, so a human is used instead. They have to be careful not to go too fast as they would go upside-down and end up on their head! I am sure it was used in close-up shots for the seige scenes in "Kingdom of Heaven".
Yeah, the trebuchet is really a marvel of simple yet effective engineering...
