Castle Carvonea WIP02
The second instalment of my long term castle project.
About this creation
Hi everyone, I thought it was time for another update - so here we go.

I'll start off with the image I finished on in WIP01.

So shortly after my first WIP I completed the foundations flooring and started to build vertically. Before I got too carried away I had to check that my colour scheme was going to work - and it didn't. The reddish-brown above all my sections broke the castle into boxes - not cool. This had to change. (I recently found out I am completely Red/Green colour blind - so apologies if these colours do not look like what I've called them.)

You can see the changes here in this image. I found that the Dark Gray helped the castle's vertical appearance. Another small change to note is the overhand on the windows - its now gone.

After a few more days I had quite a few more levels of the exterior done - this is not including windows or doors yet (as I can edit these features later).

And again a few more days work saw the beginning stages of the Castle's right-hand side. You can see the double height windows on the right side, these are part of the dining/function area of the castle. In this image you can also see a further colour change in that the walls are now Light Gray - with completely Dark Gray joins. In the real build this will help the castle stand out from the mountains I plan to build behind it... Eventually.

THE PROBLEM!!
I did a few Mocks (In lego...) to test how my modules would fit together - it was good - but I hadn't yet added the detail to make each level built so the castle could be taken apart. I made the modifications in the Lego mock and found that the only module I havn't made serious changes to is the 14x14 floor tile...

Many pieces from the sub assemblies have now been deleted from them - which means many of the mating constraints have also been removed from the final assemblies. Time to start from scratch in Solidworks with the new module designs.

ON THE PLUS SIDE!!
The new module design is very versatile and even has extra detail in the slopes - it will now mesh invisibly with the roof-line when I get the roof part complete. This includes plenty of detailing around the castle tops and balconies.

So there we have it. I have already completed most of the new modules to work with and should be back up to this stage in a couple of weeks - with roofing details complete too :D Until next time, keep brickin'! ~Thoy

You've got to be kidding me. I think you just like to flaunt all your pieces in front of us. ;)

I'm actually building a castle too! But few things: 1. Where may you get all the bricks or are you just going to order from PAB? And 2. Not to be offensive, but your castle, although has great sense of depth is too plain. I suggest you build three or more types of segments- One just wall, one the current design and one with a small window. You may also want to make a few doors :).

LOL, I have to ask, does this look like its anywhere close to being finished? Your very quick to assume this will be the final look. Still, thanks for your thoughts. I'm sure there is a builder in my head who has already well and truly thought about the final look of his own creation ;)

Quoting Stuart Kahler Do you plan on covering the inside of the plates with regular brick? Otherwise there's quite a bit of gap between the round plates.
Hey Stu, yes. The wall will be split, so the interior can be White (Base colour) with Tan (Wood colour) detailing. The exterior is as you see it here. also the river wont be going under the castle, but it does swing around it from the back area and across the front. There will be the normal bridge to gain entrance to the castle premises. Eventually the castle will have gardens and grassy plateaus in the foreground. There will be an outer castle wall spliting the castle land from the bustling village on the out-skirts. If you see the size of the castle here (200+ X 200+ studs), the finished build will be around 300+ X 600+ studs. There will be some drops in ground level to make use of some inner village features like a water wheel etc. Should be great and take about 10years to complete!

I'm getting all sorts of fun ideas just from what you've done so far. I look forward to seeing where you take it. Lots more windows, and a river that runs under the castle, I hope! Thoy, thanks for the update! I agree that the grey color scheme flow much better than the reddish brown slopes did. Keep us posted on when you order all those 1x1 rounds.....so I know that they'll cost $2.oo each

Quoting Sebeus I Looking impressive mate, must say I like natural castle more (with more angles and rocks), of course those aren't so modular. Anyway, keep it up
When I first started this concept I was thinking regular shapes for simplicity, but changing the shape of each level so it still had some interesting features - similar to Buckingham Palace in a way I guess. As always, thanks Sebeus :)

A long way to go my friend. The left tower will be 9 stories tall, the right side has a tower that will be 11 stories tall. Thanks :)

Quoting Ru Corder Thoy, thank you. Your perseverance really inspires me. For you to know that this will take years maybe, and still be so dedicated to fufilling this dream. It inspires me with my lego castle, with learning to play the guitar, with life in general. thank you.
Those who don't have to persevere to get to the top will never appreciate the top as much as someone who has had to work for it. Glad I could be inspiration to you Ru :) And thanks for all the Nominations! Btw, Return of the Ancients is eligible for Best Castle Genre ;)
