About this creation
Caught in between the Teeth of Mordor like a piece of rotting flesh stands the Black Gate to keep out all who would oppose Sauron.
I only had one shot to take pics at home before packing this up and shipping it off to Phipson. Unfortunately I didn't realize until later how bad they turned out. They are all that is left of the build unfortunately.
Just like Kevin, Bones, and Kelso's builds most of my stuff came smashed to bits. The Black Gate was no exception.
It took me quite some time to get this put back together. It was separated into 12 sections, wrapped and shipped in a huge box with LOTS of cushion. That didn't help.
Also, Castle Falling Water came smashed to bits as well.
It's really tough to be next to such a skilled builder as Kevin Walter. It's very intimidating actually. Luckily he shared some rough shots and I tried to capture the same feel. While the gate was looked over a lot for the tower (as expected), I still got quite a bit of compliments from the crowd.
Well there ya have it. My contribution was only one of many that I will share with you all in my next post!
I forgot to ask whilst there, but did you and Kevin plan it so that your builds fitted in well together? Because they did, there are echoes in your gate of Kevin's build and vice versa. They work so well together. Awesome gate Heath. You did an amazing job on the construction and dramatic style of this. I am so pleased it wasn't that tiny one you emailed us pics of before we left...

That is a good MOC. Thanks for posting it and sharing it with us! :D
It was truly a great build Heath (despite being overshadowed by Barad Dur)! Thank you so much for helping make the vision a reality! Now stop your slacking it's time to get to work on next years! ~ Chris.
Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy
Brilliant in its details. Did you change anything when you had to rebuild it?
Actually this one went together a bit easier than I thought it would....was just time consuming. I did end up with a few extra parts however.....in fact we did on most of the crunched builds....we just factored in "parts efficiency"! LMAO
One of the things I appreciated most about your build was the amount of texture you created using the wedge plates in an "illegal connection". The texture helped connect the gate visually and thematically with Barad-dûr. You sir are a rebel (and a very skilled and creative builder).
