Colonel Robert Watts
My super secret contest entry pf super secrecy is complete. The contest it is for is over on Flickr, and it is called the "Send me out with a bang contest." First prize is a 24k plasma blade from brickarms. I am a real sucker for shiny things, so I entered. And don't forget to search for the hidden skull.
About this creation
Warning: if you take offense to fake gunfire, fired at people that aren't you, in a scene that never existed and probably won't ever exist, I feel sorry for you and urge you to stop viewing my things.

In the contest you had to choose from three categories.

  • Category 1: Create a Forced Perspective scene of any of the campaign missions from any of the HALO games, but a link must be provided in the description. Entries must be a minimum of 10x10 and have no size limit.

  • Category 2: Create a one picture "scene" of any battle or event from the Halo novels. Whether it's Fall of Reach, or Ghosts of Onyx, it's all fair game as long as it's from the books. All entries must be one picture, and the base of the scene can be up to 24x24.

  • Category 3: Create a vignette or diorama depicting one of the various HALO Live Action Trailers. Entries must be 16x16 - 32x32.

I love the books, so I choose category 2.

Setting the Scene

The year is 2525, the Spartan IIs have just graduated and have been assigned their first mission. They are to infiltrate an Insurrectionist base, located in one asteroid near Eridanus II, and capture one traitor. He traitor is former Colonel Robert Watts, current leader of Insurrectionist forces. Five Spartan IIs went, John, Fred, Linda, Kelly, and Sam. They boarded the cargo vessel Laden and hid inside it’s water tank, when they arrived at the asteroid base they donned coveralls (matching what the crew of the Laden wears) over their black body armour and went out. They exited the Laden, went through the large, cavernous shipping bay, and proceded into the small insurrectionist city. The Spartans were following a target, specifically a crate filled with cigars and champagne, luxury items. There was only one place it would be taken. The group followed the crate to a 12 story barracks, and infiltrated it. They reached the top floor with little difficulty.

“John kicked the door in.”
“He took in the entire situation at a glance. He was standing in a sumptuous apartment.”

“There was a wet bar boasting shelves of amber-filled bottles.”

“A large, round bed dominated the corner, decorated with shimmering silk sheets.”

“Windows on all sides had sheer white curtains—John’s helmet automatically compensated for the glare.”

“Red carpet covered the floor.”

“The crate with the cigars and champagne sat in the center of the room. It was black and amoured, sealed tight against the vacuum of space.”

“There were three men standing behind the armoured crate, and one man crouched behind them. Colonel Robert Watts—their ‘package’.
John didn’t have a clear shot. If he missed, he could hit the Colonel.
The three men, however, didn’t have that problem. They fired.”

The above italic text is from the novel Halo: The Fall of Reach. Which is a great book, I’ve read it so many times it’s almost destroyed.

What do you think, impressed? No? Okay. If you want to see the competition, look here.

//Fourth Wall, with more pictures//

Getting the right lighting, and pictures was a real pain in the #$%.

Here is an overhead shot of the scene. The contest started on May 15th and will end on July 1st, so I thought in May; “I have time, I’ll put it off a bit.” Then I said this a week ago; “Oh @#$%, I only have two weeks!” Then I jumped out of my chair and flew to my desk to build.

The ‘bad’ guys. And before you ask ‘are they really the bad guys?’ consider the fact that they use terror tactics, and even blew up a civilian cruise ship above Reach. The UNSC may not be perfect, but they didn’t do anything like that.
They are carrying HMG-38s, an older weapon. John has an MA2B, a cut down version of the familiar MA5B.

I apologize for the glare in these pictures.

A city in an asteroid, not too difficult to make. The only hard part was that infernal 24x24 size limit.

All of the structures here follow the same style, because they had limited materials and no budget for a fancy, loyal to the UNSC, architect.

More glare. I tried for some forced perspective to really enhance the scene, hence the city.

Back to the room.

Overhead view with no figs.

I especially like how the night-table and recliner turned out.

Extra shot of the wet bar.

And outside the scene again.

Over the city, the structures get smaller as you go back to add to the forced perspective.

This is the cavernous ceiling to the city, upside down. I have only a few inverted slopes and a ton of the regular slope.

Notice the missing sections on the main build, as well as the teeth in the cavern build? That’s so they can come together and be held together.

It can be slid in.

And when attached it is a SUD build style. SUD means Studs Upside Down.

I will post the extended scene in the near future, I urge you to check it out when it is posted.

Rate, Comment, and wish me luck if the mood strikes you.

I like the glare. For some reason, it makes the city look more... alive.

Quoting Eric 'Hawk' Mickle *Bullets. There won't be lazers in 2525.
There are lasers now too. Laser is just a device that emits light through a certain process (optical amplification). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_cutting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrolaser You CAN cut things with laser.

It's one of your best creations so far, if not the best. I like every little detail of the build, the lighting is perfect, and the forced perspective is awesome. All of these things make the atmosphere really great for this setting. Fantastic entry, I hope you'll win. PS: I saw the others, most of them are pretty good, but yours is my favorite.

And because certain types of lasers CAN cut, they can be used as weapons. But it won't be like Star Trek's slow phaser, it will be some sort of deadly focused flashlight. You'll also need a lot of energy if you want to laser to be quick, and it will be really expensive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_e7B8GTaFo

Quoting Nindo Gildure Why do you keep saying sorry for small things like the glare?
Because some people take offense, or are bothered by such things. Like my warning at the top urging wierd people not to look, it worked.

Why do you keep saying sorry for small things like the glare? I thought it was fantastic! It was a good trick using the clear window panels as lights! I especially liked how you shined the lamp on them so they would give off the impression of lighting up! Wonderful work!

Based on that I doubt that the worlds armies will be using Lazer Rifles any time soon.

Technically yes, but I spell it two ways. Laser, as in a beam of light and Lazer as in lethal light fired from a weapon. My term is probably wrong, but that's how I distinguish the two.

I have a feeling you'll win, because you put in a lot more effort in the build, the canon info, and especially the lighting, than some of the other contestants. I also like the vig, but the floor is a bit plain (unfortunately, I really don't know how you could change that). Great job, and good luck in the contest!

Very clean build. The forced perspective is well done, and the lights on the ceiling blew me away. It is a brilliant idea. I hope you win the contest. 5/5! ~Stay green
