About this creation

So finally I found the time to redo the hood. I enlarged it back to the right length and made it more or less studless. Now the hood is inline with the rest of the car. Due to the fact that I can't show a lot of progress this time I thought to add one of my crown pieces to the shoot. They are actually from the same period. The W123 is release in 1976 and the Lego Model 956 is released in 1978. However now I have the bonnet correct, I still struggle with the form of the front piece in general, I am still not satisfied. I even consider to tear the front down and start all over again with different technique and way of building.

Besides the front I am still fighting with the grill as well. The real grill has several horizontal lines and one vertical in the middle. Offline I tried a lot of different configurations but didn't find a satifying one till now. So another battlefield to win.

On request I quickly added some headlights. I used yellow for the 2 outer ones. (I just don't have 4 transparant ones :-)). Anyhow it improves the front tremedously to my opinion. And I added a hood ornament. When the car is finished I will glue together a steering wheel from miniland with a round one stud plate and get it painted silver.

For now I leave it like it is. In 3 weeks time I have summer holidays and then I will work on the front and back train, engine and interior.

Quoting Ape Fight An excellent model - looks very much like the real deal and a good mix of techniques used to achieve accuracy. I do have a suggestion for the bonnet though, which looks a bit lumpy and haphazard to me; why not make it 'flat' but slope the whole thing (so it's built at a slight angle to raise it at the back, rather than it being raised by adding plates to the bonnet itself). Hope that makes sense, very good MOC overall : )
Thanks for the tip. I will give it a try, never thought about using a sloped bonnet.

You did a good job with the headlights. the (temporary) ornament also does a lot. Man I can't wait to see it when you think you're finished.

Beautiful model. Nice to see an 853 around the place, too.
