Halo LDD Comic EPISODE 1: The Day After Freedom
The 1st installment to the epic Halo LDD Comic!
About this creation
It's finally here! The moment you have all been waiting for has now arrived. It was pretty cheesy to name this episode "the day after freedom" on July 5, but hey, I have trouble coming up with names. Anyways, this episode is rather long and I wish for you to read the whole thing, and corresponding dialogue can be found under the pictures they describe.

Also, all of the characters that appear in this episode (That would be Specialist Ash Mck, Commando Fog, Bob the Almighty, Bluefett 305, Josh Cooper, Major F916, Christian Collins, and Brian Carncross) MUST comment on this creation, or else their characters might experience a possible death in the next episodes to come.

Thanks for all of the sign ups for making this possible!

Reach: the fortress in the stars. The military stronghold of the UNSC, this planet is so important that it becomes a problem for the army when the littlest of issues come about. So when we found out a group of Insurrectionists had successfully knocked our communications off, the military panicked. This was not the planet to fool around on. Unfortunately, when we arrived we discovered something far worse than Insurrectionists...

...We found the Covenant. Upon successfully defending Sigma Octanus, the Covenant were still able to obtain information from this rock, which apparently gave them a lot of knowledge for who knows what. They also placed a tracking beacon on one of our ships, and that is how they were able to locate Reach and start an attack there.

The relay at Visegrad was knocked down by the Covenant, and a special strike team known as Noble Team was sent down to investigate. But the declaration of Winter Contingency didn't get farther than Noble Team, which left some other soldiers gasping for air at the first sight of the Covenant on their stronghold.

On a forest continent on the east side of Reach, a small strike team known as Charlie Squad was fighting a large group of Covenant that were coming from all directions. But what the soldiers found would forever change the true prospect of Covenant War...

Josh Cooper (purple): Dude! I thought we were being deployed to combat Innie scum! What the hell are the Covenant doing here?
F916 (Spt Laser): Don't go complaining to me all day, I'm focusing and I would rather be working alone.
Josh Cooper: Jerk.

F916: It's called patience, my fellow soldier. Although we have the same goal, to rid the world of the Covenant, the equation that decides who lives to see it and who dies for it is patience. Your rage to kill the Covenant because your family was killed by them will most certainly get you killed. Also--oh, give me a second.

BRAKKKOWWW!!!
F916: Ah...the sweet smell of burning Grunt flesh and heated metal armor...wakes me up in the morning.

F916: That marks my kills for today at 21.
Josh Cooper: Stop bragging. You have the Spartan Laser.
F916: Yeah, yeah--wait Cooper, look out!

*An Elite smashes through the trees and comes behind the rock, inches from Cooper's head*
Josh Cooper: YAAHHHHHHHHH!!! GET AWAY FROM ME!!!
F916: Never mind, forget what I said about patience, just KILL HIM!

*Meanwhile, in the skies, squad leader Ash Mck. uses his Spartan Laser from above...*

*Marine Hazmat soldier Mark uses his flamethrower to discourage any grunts from coming too close...*

*Christian Collins emerges from the foliage as Reinforcement to his fellow Marine...*

*And Oracle Ball tries to use his fuel rod gun, but a plasma rifle shot causes a flux in his balance as he misses his target*

*Commando Fog streaks behind the rocks and thick flora in order to lay the trap, as more and more Covenant come out of nowhere.*

*Commando Fog sees an opening in the forest trees, and so he makes a break for it*

Ash Mck: *comlink* I see a suicidal on your left, Collins, take him out. Oracle Ball, give aid to Mark while Collins takes the detour.
Oracle Ball: *comlink* You got it boss.

Collins: Mark, I need to go take care of a suicidal, Oracle Ball will provide cover!
Mark: Roger that Collins, I'll fall back a bit.

Collins: Your stupid Great Journey isn't going so well for you, is it?
*Splatters of luminous blue blood cover the floor as Collins delivers rounds from his DMR*

Mark: FLAME ON!
*Immediately the little Grunt's face bursts into flames, and soon his methane tank does too, creating a small explosion that sends Mark reeling*

Mark: Whoah, should've seen that--AHHH!!!
*The plasma shot from the Elite hits a reeling Mark in the arm, seriously injuring him*
Collins: Mark! Stay put, I'll take care of this!

*The Elite starts to move in for the kill, while Collins desperately tries to aid Mark*

Oracle Ball: Stop right there, I'll take care of this...

*Oracle Ball sends a fuel rod flying right into the Elite's chest, an expert marksman hit*
Oracle Ball: BOOM! Heart attack! I think that's the end of them for now, but I don't see Commando Fog either.

Collins: Calm down, Mark, calm down. We'll have medical evac coming soon. *comlink* Ash Mck, could you contact the nearest Reach outpost? We need medical evac immediately.
Mark: * Hyperventilating* Owww! Owww! It BURNS! *cough cough* OWWW!!!

*Ash Mck descends from the sky to aid Collins and Oracle Ball, and he also scouts around for pieces of armor*

Ash Mck: *Comlink* This is Charlie Squad leader to nearest outpost. We need a bite!
UNSC communications associate: *Comlink* This is Reach Outpost Tango to Charlie Squad leader, what's your situation?
Ash Mck: We have a 9 man squad and we need to bust immediately! We also have a man in heavy need of medical assistance. Got a pelican?
UNSC communications associate: All Pelicans are in combat now, we have to send you two Hornets. Our outpost is 5 clicks away.

Ash Mck: You got an extra medic?
UNSC communications associate: No sir, all medics are in the field. You have a medic in your squad?
Ash Mck: Yes sir, but we're going to need more than him. We've got 4th degree burns the whole right arm.

Ash Mck: Uh oh. I see more bogeys coming through the forest, you think you could get those Hornets down a bit faster?
UNSC communications associate: Well, we're operating them at max speed--
Ash Mck: I SAID FASTER DAMMIT!
UNSC communications associate: Could've said please. How many bogies squad leader?

Ash Mck: 7 of em, 1 being a Brute Captain. We don't have enough firepower for this!
UNSC communications associate: Sorry to not be much of a help, but I'm afraid we can't send more soldiers.
Ash Mck: Dammit why are you guys always so slow!?!

*Christian Collins looks up and sees the enemy, and suddenly things are going to get a little ugly.*

*A loud set of explosions, almost like firecrackers, occurs and suddenly a wall of flame appears between the two sides*
Ash Mck: WHOAH! Did you see that?!
UNSC communications associate: I'm sorry, squad leader, we're talking on a radio.
Ash Mck: You should've seen the look on those Elites' faces!
UNSC communications associate: Again, squad leader, I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING ON YOUR SIDE.
Ash Mck: But seriously, look closer!
UNSC communications associate: *Sigh*

Ash Mck: I guess we have a little more time. Charlie squad out.

Commando Fog (dk red): Hey guys! You holdin' up okay?
Collins: Well, I guess we are now, thanks to your ingenious trap.
Commando Fog: Well, that's my job, right?

Oracle Ball: Hey look! They've retreated!
Collins: Good. Anybody have some duct tape?
Mark: DUCT TAPE?!?! What are you doing to me?!?!

Ash Mck: Fog, I'd like to thank you for saving us there. You gave time for Collins to aid Mark and also saved some lives for our squad.
Commando Fog: It's no problem, boss. Those Covvies didn't even see me go behind them. I'm thankful that Oracle's fuel rod didn't miss that Elite and hit me, cuz I was setting a bomb right behind him. Where are Bluefett and Bob Almighty?
Ash Mck: They are on a separate mission, they traveled east in order to find an outpost in the forest. Hey, did you happen to see where Cooper and F916 are? We haven't seen them around here at all.
Commando Fog: Nope, haven't seen them around any--

BRAKKKOWWWW!!!!!
*All heads turn to the sound of an earsplitting shot, and Ash Mck and Fog quickly investigate*

F916: Damn, that hurts...

F916:...I wouldn't want a Spartan Laser shot in my belly either.

Cooper: I've been hiding behind this rock for too long man! I want to knife him!
F916: Patience, fellow soldier, I'll make sure he can still blink.

Cooper: Is he dead yet?
F916: No.
Cooper: How about now?
F916: *Sigh*

Cooper: Hey! I thought you said he would still be able to blink!
F916: Well, I was going too, but I sorta got carried away, so I just turned him into a pile of ash instead. You can still knife him if you want.
Cooper: Jerk.

Commando Fog: There you are! We thought that surely you were dead when we heard that shot.
F916: We're not dead, that was my well aimed shot, in fact. And don't call me Shirley.

Collins: Mark is in stable condition, Ash Mck, but he's still bleeding quite a bit.
Oracle Ball: Good news, Collins! I see our rides!

Hornet Pilot: *Comlink* This is your pilot speaking. Requesting permission to land.
Ash Mck: *Comlink* No! No! Don't land pilot, there's a wall of fire and I fear it is spreading through the forest. Get down to treetop level, we should be able to move ourselves from there.

Commando Fog: So that's all of us except Bluefett and Bob Almighty then, right boss?

Ash Mck.: That's right Fog. And I fear that we may have to hurry it up a bit. Look over there!

Bluefett (blue arm): Run Bob run! They're right behind us!
Bob Almighty (marine): I'm running I'm running! I don't have knees, remember!?!

Bluefett: They literally set the whole forest behind us on fire! I don't want to take care of a Bob flambée!
Bob Almighty: Ooh...sounds tasty! I mean, uh, keep running!

Ash Mck: Bluefett, Bob Almighty! Quick, we'll try to hold them off as long as possible, our rides are here!
Bluefett: They're right on our tail, so get fortified!

Oracle Ball: The Hornet is has gone as low as it can, boss! But how are we supposed to get on it?

Cooper: With my hard-hitting weapon over here!
Commando Fog: *Chuckle*
Cooper: Oh, would you shut up!?!

*Cooper fires the rope from the compartment on his assault rifle, latching on to the Hornet*
Cooper: Always great to have a modded Assault Rifle with ya.

*Quickly, F916, Josh Cooper, and Commando Fog climb the rope as the fire grows on the ground below*
Commando Fog: OW! Get your leg out of my face F916!
F916: Maybe you should get your face away from my leg!

*Christian Collins and Mark are also lifted onto the Hornet, and soon the first 5 soldiers are off*

Oracle Ball: Alright guys, I'm calling down the second Hornet! Get ready!

*The Hornet pilot sees Bluefett and Oracle Ball waving, and so he descends down*

Bob Almighty: THEY'RE HERE! AHHHHHH!!!
Ash Mck: Calm down Bob, I got my laser warming up!

*Four Brute Ultras smash through the burning trees, weapons at the ready*

Ash Mck: Aahh! Bob, move out of the way!
Bob Almighty: MOVING!

*Ash Mck's panic of hitting Bob causes the shot to miss, hitting a plant next to the Brute by mistake*
Ash Mck: Sh*t.
*The Brute, seeing the miss, starts firing his spiker*

Ash Mck: AAAHH! That was WAY too close!

*Bluefett and Oracle Ball have already got on the Hornet with the rope, and Bob dangles from its end*
Bluefett: Boss! We have to go NOW! They're coming too close!

*Ash Mck. quickly turns on his jetpack and foot jets, and soon the Hornet and the squad leader start to depart*

*The lead Brute pulls out a Spike Grenade, and holds it up in the air*

Ash Mck, Bluefett, and Oracle Ball: Damn that son of a b**** is gonna get us.

*The Spike grenade flies over and sticks right into the side of the tail fin*
Oracle Ball: OH SH--

*The Spike grenade explodes, and although no spikes impaled any soldiers, they severely damaged the engine and the left VTOL thruster*

Hornet Pilot: We've lost most of our power! We might have to land a bit short from our destination, I'll contact the other part of the squad now.
Bluefett: Well, my co-leader, we were able to get everyone out alive. At least we can live another day.
Ash Mck: Yes, yes, of course Bluefett. Job well done. But to live another day is torturous. We just won a major battle in Sigma Octanus IV, and yet we are fighting just the day after. It's like the day after freedom. Freedom that will never last.
Bluefett: Man that's deep. You should publish that quote or something.

Ash Mck: *To himself* But what I'm most worried about is this thing--a syringe filled with a neon green liquid. Something tells me that the Covenant is up to something much more diabolical than a Super Scarab, and this formula might be the answer to the new era of Covenant War technology we have never seen. I must get this analyzed!

Bob the Almighty: PLEASE! PLEASE ORACLE BALL! Pull me up PLEASE! Why does this always happen to me?!?!

END

FOURTH WALL COMMENTARY

Thanks to Chris McVeigh for providing instructions to build a sphere (actually, he built a Pokeball, but I reconditioned and recolored it to make it like the planet Reach in the first picture). All other creations were built by me and by me ONLY. Instructions for the Hornet can be found on its respective page on my site, and instructions for the Engineers will be released when I redesign them to be buyer-friendly.

As I mentioned before, all of the characters that appear in this episode (Specialist Ash Mck, Commando Fog, Bob the Almighty, Bluefett 305, Josh Cooper, Major F916, Christian Collins, and Brian Carncross) MUST comment on this creation, or else their characters might experience a possible death in the next episodes to come.

Please comment and rate! This is my first large-scale comic, so it would be great to hear some feedback. Thanks!

Quoting Eric 'Hawk' Mickle Can't wait. Can you reveal who is in it?
Everyone from the first episode, and all of the ODSTs in the comic, for sure. I may include some marines too.

Quoting Bluefett 305 Is that me in the front row?
I don't believe it is...I did it at random; so don't worry if you're not in the front row because there's no favoritism going around. Eric Mickle was the only one chosen on purpose, because he inspired me with his comic and let me use Team Foxtrot. Other than that I just needed a random spartan, marine, and ODST.

Quoting Josh Cooper (On Vacation) Are you currently at liberty to divulge the information as to where the next comic will be taking place exactly?
The next scene should be in a plain, maybe a plateau, which is basically flat and only covered in grass. There will also be some scenes at the previously mentioned Tango comms outpost. As for the plot line, you'll have to wait :)

Sweet man! Sorry its taken me awhile to comment on this, Im on vacation so I cant get on much. But I really like how you did my character, and I must say I love the rifle as well. Overall, this is a splendid comic. It was a bit hard to tel what was going on in parts having a green hornet over green landscape in ldd, but thats my only nitpick. Looking forward to the next installment!

Quoting Sgt. Will Smith Reach accually had a couple mistakes in it, such as the Brutes showing up and Engineers wheren't discovered until ODST.
Yes i know about the Brutes, but engineers did show up before ODST: they were first discovered in Sigma Octanus IV, the battle that preceded the Fall of Reach.

Well, that was an awesome start to your comic and I would like you to use the mod of your hornet I made. Anyway I hope to be in the next part, Drako

WOnderful! I can't describe how fantastic this is! Also when my character does come to the comics I would like you to know that he may be a sniper but he doesn't mind getting up close and personal with a magnum and ESPECIALLY an assassination knife. It's as if he is addicted to trying to knife people! Anyway fantastic, can't wait for the next one!

I am still awaiting comments from Christian Collins, Commando Fog, and Brian Carncross. Good job guys, and thanks for all of the feedback!

Words don't do this comic justice. It's far too great for that. Everything is just so awesome, and that includes my character. Thanks for taking the time to make this! I can't wait for a second issue! Just to make it clear, all the characters and aliens you used where fine. The brute Ultras wear the color armor you make them have and wield spikers, maulers, and Brute Shots. There are a ton of brutes in Halo Reach. The Captains wear golden armor and wield mostly spikers and gravity hammers. Sometime in the series can you have my character fight one, assault rifle to gravity hammer? That would be so extremely cool I garuntee I would practically worship you. Once again though great job. Keep up the good work!!!

Quoting Josh B. Do I have your permission to make an LDD CYOA comic like yours, but Star Wars? I just want to make sure it's okay with you.
Go ahead, and good luck!
  July 6, 2011
Brutes appeared in Contact Harvest, which was the start of the war. The could have been at Reach. They are my least favourite Covenant species so it wouldn't bother me if they stopped appearing.

Interesting idea for the engineers. Have you decided when you are going to put your Sanghelio reformers in? Have you played HALO3 ODST yet? That was when the first Huragok were seen. Sorry I informed you of this but I thought it might be good for you to know that even though they were also featured in Reach as well. Also could you please please please tell me if you are going to follow through and be a voice actoor in my stop-motion! all the members of the movie will get a special gift to go a long with your free copy of the movie and trailers. So please take the time to stop by the Spartans of Halo Universe and confirm your posistion so I can Email you the script and spots you can play in the cast. Thanks W.R.

Quoting Yapdap 'Reep' Bitte Everything was good except for one problem. The humans don't know of the brutes or come in contact with them until between the first and second game. That is in the book First Strike by Eric Nylund, and yes it is official.
Don't Brutes appear in Halo Reach though? I thought I saw some, and that's why I used them, but I'm probably wrong. Thanks for that little snippet of info though.

Quoting Stormbringer . That was outstanding. Is this the first time that anyone has done a comic in LDD? Pretty good. But I think your going a little too harsh on the characters.
Do you mean by having them "die" if they don't comment? I realize what you mean, and it may be a bit harsh, but learning from the outcomes of some people on Eric Mickle's CYOA, I found that out that I have to keep the characters active and that no inactive ones take up space. And besides, the people who signed up have generally been very good with keeping active.
