About this creation

Both Alphonse and Edward are quite skillful in a practice called alchemy. In the series, alchemy refers to the comprehension, decomposition, and reconstruction of matter. Using this technique, an alchemist can use objects around them to create other objects with similar chemical makeup and equal mass.

After their mother's death, the Elric brothers attempt the forbidden in efforts to bring her back: human transmutation. As a consequence for this sin, Edward loses his arm, and Alphonse loses his entire body.

Desperate to bring his brother back, Edward sacrifices his own leg to bond his brother's soul to a suit of armor. Throughout the rest of the series, Ed and Al search for ways to return their bodies form beyond the Gate.

This goal drives them to search for an item called the Philosopher's Stone, which allows one to considerably bend, or even break, the laws of alchemy.

I really enjoyed building this bust, and I think it turned out nicely. It wasn't originally intended to be a bust, however. I had finished the arms and the bottom down to the thighs. These other parts didn't quite have the same clean appearance as the bust due to my lack of parts. After giving up on the shins and feet, I thought a bust might be a nice alternative.
