Jetfire G1 Transformer.
Here is my first attempt at a transformer - Jetfire G1. This is based on an early version made in 1984 by Ban Dai. It was discontinued due to legal copyright reasons (I think). I got inspiration from Chris Roach’s awesome transformer (legoformer) range. I used the original toy as a guide and therefore the transformation process is virtually exactly the same. It is fully transformable without removing any pieces. It is even more pose-able than the original toy. I have made a few alterations to the jet (adding rear wings) but the robot mode is pretty accurate. I am really pleased with the hands, landing gear and his head. This was one of my most difficult builds to date – even more challenging than my technic Bugatti. I think I have used pretty much every different type of hinge that Lego have produced. I hope you like him.

Wow, I can't believe this is already two years old! Time flies.... Sounds like you transformed this a lot at STEAM. I've been wanting to go to a LEGO convention and possibly display as well, but unfortunately I'm so busy these days. You've probably said already but I missed it - did DeTomaso go too? I'm looking forward to your next masterpiece. -LB Jr.

Quoting Nils O. Wow, I just discovered this one, it's amazing! You've posted it before I started on MOCpages, so it was a big surprise to me. The shaping is excellent and the transforming is very clever. Great job! :-)) Maybe you can make a second one for your next exhibition and have one displayed in each mode ;-))
Thanks mate. Jetfire got an amazing response, I even received a round of applause every time I transformed him. The whole event was a complete blur and slightly surreal.

Quoting David Roberts Great to see this and the original that it's based on, at the Great Western Lego Show. I got the impression that you spent the day explaining that it did transform but it takes a long time. A video on an iPad next year? :) Great to meet its creator and family too.
Yeah! Unfortunately that excuse did not cut the mustard for long, I must have transformed him 100 times over the weekend. In the end I managed to master it and bring it down to a few minutes. I think this was my most popular creation, especially with the other builders.

Can't believe I've never commented! I must've looked at it about 3 times as well haha! Everyone has already said just about everything, but I'll mention some of those things again: Both modes look great, love the hands, I think its just as good as Chris Roaches 'formers, and I'm glad you did a real one rather than make up your own, which is all I've ever done and I'm quite ashamed of that, as a pretty big fan of Transformers myself ;) All in all, great work!

Quoting Tim C Hey, Joe. This might be my favorite Transformer on this site. It is the most accurate to the original, (not to mention that it is one of the few of my childhood toys that I still have, and not in storage). I would like to feature this on the My Current Favorites portion of my page sometime in the future. Would I have your permission for that?
Wow! I would be honoured Sir. Thank you so much.

Fantastic!! Very accurate, this is what I am looking for. Once I had played with that plamodel from my friend of mine when childhood. That was very impressive to me and, that is why I have not forget it transform function and I made Jet knight. Glad to see this model in your moc page again. I cannot distinguish from rear model and your creation. : ) Infect, yours more accurate than rear such as hands, weapons it has and many things. If you do not mind, could you give me some tips about how did you get pieces for your creation. Because, now I want to get some more bricks or sets and make things more characteristic and large than from 5867 set. I have enough bricks that are more than 1 cubic meter. I collected them late 80¡¯s to early 90¡¯s but, it is in my parents' house in Korea and I cannot bring them out by personal reason. I hope to know about you already have lots of set collections and you made nice creation from them or you have imagination first and then get pieces separately. Sorry I write too long for my question. If willing to help me, this is my email. lunar2clipse@gmail.com Thanks and again, very glad to see your Jet fire. : )

A wonderful recreation of the toy. the 1st time I tried making my UCS version I used the same toy as reference material. If you ever want to try de-yellowing your toy look at this http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/ I've seen some test shots on various lego brick colors seems to work.

Quoting Scott Allen Did yours break too?
Thanks Scott, really pleased you like it. Chris was my inspiration to build this. My original figure is still in one piece but has yellowed very badly. I have lost most of his red armour and the remaining pieces are not in good condition. Definitely my favourite figure from G1 even though it is a Macross remould. I am considering reshaping this into the Transformer cartoon version.

After seeing Sir Roach's new mecha I asked him to build Jetfire. Then I found yours. Awesome! Really great build. He is my all-time favorite Autobot. When I got the official toy as a kid, I could not have been happier. That ended about a week later when the shoulder hinge broke...;-( That was the toy's fatal flaw. Did yours break too?

WOW! However did I miss this? Jetfire is literally the 1 Transformer out of many that I've always wanted to recreate in Lego (basically because he's a VF from Robotech)! Great work here all around. I'd love to see a 2nd version of this but smoother and tiled (or SNOT-ed).

Wow. This is almost spot on to the G1 Jetfire toy. However, I did not know about the whole controversy with Robotech/Macross (which is ironic considering that Bandai owned them as well as owned and still owns the Gundam franchise, which was, from what I heard, anyway, what the Transformers were originally going to be like at first). F.Y.I. in Beast Machines and the three or four part Transformers series that had aired on Cartoon Network from 2003 to 2009, there were also Jetfire Transformers in those cartoons as well, MortalSwordsman. By the way, were your Jetfire more studless, I would love it even more than I do now.

Nice first legoformer! You have done a great job on this! You are correct: The original toy was based on the Robotech / Macross mold which caused some legal controversy. But its the only original G1 toy of Jetfire that Hasbro made. PS I have also been working on a similar one (for many months) but haven't decided if its going to be decoed as Robotech Skull Leader or Autobot Jetfire! Cheers! great build!
