WELCOME TO ANOTHER ADDITION TO THE BSG FAMILY
About this creation

This version of “ Gunstars “ from the colonial Battlestar fleet. Seen in the first season of the Re-imaged Battlestar Galactica.

There are lots of versions that have been designed by many brilliant minds.

I have looked at many and adapted this model to suite lego limitations ( that is me ). So this is my version of the Defender.

This model is by far the largest build I have done to date. Still totally self supported by the technic structure within.

Mostly hollow where applicable. The stages of construction can be seen on my other site in brickshelf.com

This Beast measures in length 1870mm or 73.5” allowing me to add extra detail.
Height of 380mm or 15”
Width of 610mm or 24”
AMOUNT OF PARTS 22765. Not as many as I first thought but still alot.

This BEAST weighs 27.4kilograms or 60.5 lbs. That is heavy and difficult for one to move around.

The landing bay is supported by in the mid section by 4 protruding arms from the inner hull of the main ship.

The engines before I attached them weighed in at 11 lbs each.

These engines were re-designed half way through to reduce the weight and overall size.

The defender was first designed in 4 sections to make it easy for moving but proved a down fall for the tiny parts to hold safely so when the hull lining was applied I made it as one.

That added to the weight and made it much stronger. It went on its maiden flight on the custom built stand with minor creaking and groaning. ….YEA….

I like this design as it lends its self for another engine re-fit to the rounder and sleeker design I guess there will be even more challenges creating and attaching them onto the hull.

The single landing bay has been illuminated for an extra special effect.

Thank you for taking the time to view this model and I hope it inspires for more spectacular builds from all the talented people out there.

BY REQUEST SOME CLOSE UPS...
Sorry for the poor quality as my camera is officially dead and I'm now using the phonecam.

Hope you enjoyed them

Well, Garry. I've been ogling your creations pretty much since the day I discovered MOCpages. I went to the most popular MOCs of all time on this site and lo and behold, there were several of your works. Somehow, however, I've missed this one. This is easily right at the top of my faves of your works, as well as any that I have seen so far. The design is so unique. I love the split near the rear and the greebling...well, of course, the greebling is among the best in the biz. Nice work, Garry, and I can't wait to see what's next for you.

Quoting Stephan Schumann Now i looked just at another BSG Model, from you, after i regained my breath. This elegant use of prismatic angles and the briliant surface design are very inspiring. The connentor-arms and the engines are great. Waiting for bricks, makes it always a long time, till such a big project is finished. But you can be very proud of your Defernder!
Thank you Stephan for your inspirational comment. I was very proud with the results of this model. It gave me certain challenges, all worth it. The challenge is the best part dismantling, counting, colour sorting and element sorting takes time and not inspiring. Building the next huge model is. Cheers for now.

Quoting Peter Mowry These detail shoots are amazing! Just wondering, once you have a plan in mind and a sketch or design from the BSG universe, about how long does it take to complete a model of this size? Thanks Garry.
Thank you Peter. You ask a very good question. I don't sketch anything on paper. I get all the images from the net that are available as a guide. As a BSG fan I also have many commercial models on hand to also use as a guide. Since the bricks have their so do I. I like a challenge. Some models take up to a month to construct and others two or three. Waiting for parts makes it take longer but is worth the wait as I try to solve a design problem. As I build the Valkyrie it poses so many new challenges and with it being 2.7m long. Thanks for the question. Cheers Peter

Quoting Jon Walker 60 pounds?!?! That's a lot of LEGO, and a very impressive engineering feat. Most people don't realize the challenges involved in building something so large and heavy. It's got an interesting shape, and the greebling seems thoughtful and tastefully done, not over the top. A true inspiration for all SHIP builders.
Thank you Jon for such praise. it was a hard one to build and keep in one piece while moving around. Keep up your very nice creations. Cheers

Quoting Matt David Man, I'm floored with all of this detail :-) No seriously, this is really an impressive piece of work. Amazing lines and true-to-life styling. I also love your approach to the greebling here. A lot of SHIPs I've come across simply have tubes and grills and cylinders tossed all over the place all willy-nilly. You've really shown what proper greebling can do for a model with your streamlined and orderly features here. Well done!
Thank you Matt for your generous praise. Ordered greebling is a must for these huge ships attract more criticism good and bad. Glad you liked it. Cheers
