BSE CX200 Carrack Cruiser
The Black Sun Empire navy's modified version of the Carrack Cruiser
About this creation
Yo!

Well it took me long enough to make another decent model, didn't it? The first couple of MOCs these summer holidays were just quick things, nothing too grand or special. I had plans to maaaaaaybe make another big car, and definitely at least make another Black Sun Empire model. I had the idea for this one, started work on it... then, sort of didn't do much for a while, as I was busy with other things too. Then came an unexpected being away for three weeks, and when I got back I had a bored day that ended up in lots of work on this ship, and nearly finishing it; the last few bits I did this morning.

So here it is. The original idea was to make something Dreadnaught style, though I then realised that the Carrack Cruiser had a similar shape, just smaller. I'll save the Dreadnaught for another time :)

Going through my pile of parts, I found a cool way to make the slanted-back engines, and a rounded front end... though I was short on baseplates, so this resulted in me only having enough to make the top, bottom, and only one side... nevertheless, I persisted, and ended up with the idea that one side would be built, with all the outer greebles; whilst I'd leave the other side open, to see the interior. Anyway - enough talk here. Due to popular demand, I'll make a special effort and go back to my original way of describing the ship as we go along, one photo at a time...

Top view. The Carrack Cruiser is over twice as long as the Corvette, for comparison.

Top and rear view - sorry this one came out a little blurry.

Rear view - look at all those engines!

Side view of the rear engine section, check out the way it's slanted backwards, as well as slowly getting taller nearer the end.

Side view of the whole ship. Though powerful and capable of similar speeds to the BSE Corvette, it is not one of the more commonly used warships of the Black Sun Empire Navy.

Head-on view; guns all round on the top, bottom and both sides.

Sid-ish view of the front, showing how the curved circular shape was made, the overall shape of the front section having been altered from that of the original Carrack Cruiser by the Black Sun Empire.

View of the side of the middle section - two pairs of mega-big cannons on each side, and a bunch of bits that serve no real purpose save decoration.

Close-up of the side cannons. This ship, though heavily armed, is relatively, in comparison, less armed than the smaller BS100 Corvette, which is more frequently used in battle.

Top view of the front - showing twin stinger guns on the front section and the communications dish behind.

Top view of the middle section - composed of pointless decorative greebles and less pointless turbolaser cannons in each corner.

Top view of the rear section, which has a heavy tri-turbolaser turret on each side.

Shot of the angle used in the main picture, without the starry background.

A pretty decent 3/4 view from the rear.

Another engine shot. Because lots of engines are cool.

Another 3/4 shot, this time from the front.

You wouldn't tell the commander of this ship that his vessel is slightly phallic in shape if you were facing him in a standoff. Well, not unless your ship was a Star Destroyer or something.

Interior fun! As most of my ships so far, the interior and exterior are completey not to the same scale - the interior is minifig scale, whereas if the exterior also was the ship would be to big to even think of trying to build. This shot just shows the whole open side section.

Starting back-to-front, for some reason; here's a first shot of the engine/maintenance section. A rack of torches lies on one wall.

More engine room - at the back, a container for... stuff.

Whoops... this photo is upside-down... sorry. Well you see here an upside-down engine.

The top of the engine, slightly obscured by the lack of light getting in there.

bottom of the engine, which for some reason looks like it needs drilling.

Whoops another off-angle one... it's hard to fit the camcorder in some places due to the screen that flips out on the side. If you flip it back in, it turns off, so I had to rotate the camcorder. Seen sideways, it shows the full engine from the side, top to bottom.

Enough engines - here's the cargo/storage room.

On the bottom; containers on each side, and heavy blasters racked at the back.

The same, except some dudes are standing in the way of our view.

On top, a big shelf on each side, reached to by a central ladder. Oh look, a missile, yay!

Same thing, but no missile. From the ceiling hangs a big net for... I dunno, I guess more stuff. Or crew members that don't behave.

Getting near to the front; the living section.

Underneath, a table, equipment containers at the back and a blaster rack on one wall.

On the left, another small container, steps to the cockpit, and behind the lego-dude, more steps to the upstairs area.

Upstairs has a big table with chairs and some decorative hanging lamps.

To the left upstairs is the combat flight simulator, not currently in use.

Top view of the cockpit area. Like the BSE Corvette, I went with the Star Destroyer plan of a central aisle with techy geeks on each side working the computers - except this time a bit more so.

Nerds on the right.

Nerds on the left.

This guy has a cape, he must be Commander Badass.

Commander Badass as seen from outside, if you got that near.

View looking down into the ship, from the front of the cockpit.

Another shot of the whole cargo room, with engine room in the background.

Another view of the whole living section.

Erm... yet another view of the living section.

Oh, and yet another view of the cargo room.

And here's that cargo net hanging from the ceiling.

Wow, I like it! Especially the front where it curves. Like others have said before, it is hard to take pictures of black lego... but I like how that adds darker corvers in the interior, even with it being so big. The lack of lighting inside makes it feal even more bigger I think. And plus... thumbs up for Meteora :D

- Dan

Quoting Brody Allen Nice Build. This should have more likes then it does! I love the angles at the engines and the rounded front. I didn't expect the interior. The detail you put into it is great. Well Done.
Thank you very much ! I have to admit - mostly due to the amount of parts I have - that it's going to be hard to try and make something even bigger than this next time... though it was a fun build, glad people appreciate it :) - Dan

There are so many little details, but the things that stood out to me the most were the hoses on the engine, the cargo net and the use of trans-green. Nice build!

Quoting kitty slayer Great creation. But the reason I commented is because of the linkin park banner in the back. Meteora, the golden age of linkin park!
Thanks :) Agreed - I liked their first two albums (and the Hybrid Theory EP) a lot, minutes to midnight was 'meh' and I'm not digging the new album at all... they've changed so much. Still, regardless of what they do now, the old albums are already done and forever here to listen to :) - Dan

Quoting R. H. I don't know what I like more, the awesome ship or the facts that you've mastered taking pictures of black lego creations.
Thanks very much :) I'll go with the former- I'd hardly qualify myself as a master of photography, especially with black bricks... I've found it best to put the model somewhere in the light, but not directly in the sun... though still photos end up iffy :( - Dan

Quoting Kyle Brickshipyard Such a cool and refreshing build! I love the crew quarters and the way you made this otherwise Imperial ship into a Black Sun theme which is quite clever. The size is great and the bank of engines at the rear has the perfect angle- really eye grabbing! Sometimes I think lego needs a less glaring, more subdued black color for their bricks just b/c the glare hurts the photography some... ohhh well. Still a really great MOC :). First Carrack Cruiser I have really seen.
Thank you :) I used to make my own ships from scratch for my Black Sun series, though with the Corvette and this one, I'm finding it a bit more fun and challenging to modify and build up existing Star Wars ship designs - they're not supposed to be exactly the same, though stay heavily influenced. Yes, sadly photographing black is always awkward... do it in the shade, and you can't see anything; do it in the light and you get all those reflections (sigh...) Oh well, we make do with what we have :) - Dan

Thanks a lot ! Well a homepage creation would be awesome, though it hasn't happened yet... maybe one day :) Haha yeah that's my brother... he often says he'll help out, but usually ends up not doing much with the bigger projects. Aaaah it's no problem though, he has had some good input on some of my models. - Dan

Quoting Ape Fight Another great looking massive ship from you. The cockpit looks great! This isn't a criticism of this ship, more almost every LEGO ship on MOCpages / my lack of sci-fi knowledge: Why do they never have engines on the front too? If they're in vacuum they'd need this to stop. I'd also like to see an interior that looks like it could be lived in - white walls, pictures, plants etc - but maybe I'm out of touch with how to build sci-fi! Anyway, awesome build : )
Thanks :) Hmm... I'd never actually thought about the lack of 'brakes' - of course on the real space shuttle there were side thrusters to rotate it. I honestly have no idea why Star Wars (and other) ships don't have reverse engines on the front. Maybe they thought it would look odd haha... As for living spaces, well that's be fun :) I do try to make the ships somewhat serious, though having a completely different outer/inner scale means you can't fit much; bedrooms weren't the priority. I did however have a little fun on the commander's room on my forest base :) Depending (strongly) on what parts I have left, I may try to make another big car next... though no guarantees, and if so, it may not be finished this summer... - Dan

You forgot to mention that I was going to help with it, came up with blocky ideas that werent even used in the model. Good choice, this is millions times better than my cockpit idea!
