Ferrari F40 (Revisited)
So, last night I completely rebuilt my F40, and I'm sure you'll all agree that this is a vast improvement on the first one :D On a side note, seeing as the only other 5 wide F40 on this site is my Mk.I, I think I can safely say that this is the best Ferrari F40 of this scale on MOCpages ;)
About this creation
Built: 2011

Status: Dismantled

Be sure to check out Nils O's fantastic 4-wide version of my F40 here!

Ok, This is my Mk.II F40. The only thing that's similar to the original is the front and the roof. But I've still made changes to those elements. All-in-all, it's a brand new car.

Also, I couldn't decide if I wanted black or grey wheels, so I put the colours on different sides of the car for the photos.

Thanks goes to MortalSwordsman for his suggestion to swap the solid and transparent cheese pieces on the front. I swapped the clear for a smoked though, I think that ties in with the black stripe better.

One of my favourite things about the new car is the side intakes. I made them a lot smaller, and also a lot smoother.

Overall, the car is two studs shorter, which makes the car look a bit stumpier which I like n_n Also, these dimensions are a lot more accurate to the reference blueprint I was using. (If enough people question this, I'll post the blueprint)

The front. Well, it's pretty much exactly the same. Thats not a bad thing though, I liked the front of the original anyway.

I used SNOT techniques for the rear, which worked out well because that ment that the spoiler sits just a little bit higher than the roof.

Once again, I love those intakes! :D

The rear is the area that is most changed the most from the original. I got rid of the black stripe and replaced it with a more detailed bumper and a proper tail light strip using smoked elements to match the driving lights.

One of my favourite angles of the car. You can see the curve of the intakes and the angle of the custom exhaust.

I like the spoiler a lot more too. It sits slightly higher than the original and is also half the depth, so it is a lot more accurate.

Looking pretty in red. I also made the bonnet longer, which is evident in this photo.

A high shot of the rear, reveiling the louvers on the rear window. Oh, and of course those intakes! ;)

A hight shot of the other side.

A final shot, looking very Fezza-like. I like this version infinately more than the original. :D

Before you go, I have three questions for you;
1. Which wheel colour did you like most?
2. Do you think I should make a yellow version?
3. Most importantly, do you like this more than the original?

I would greatly appreciate it if you could spend 1 minute to answer them. Thankyou! As always, I hope you like it, thanks for viewing etc, etc :) Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go and make horribly immature race car noises while playing with my F40 ;)

UPDATE: 1st of August 2011

Due to an overall vote of 'Yes', I have made a yellow version, and I like the yellow more than the red (colour wise). The two cars are the same except for 3 elements; the bonnet, the rear diffusor and the colour of the tail lights. I couldn't find my 4th 2x1 trans-black plate for the tail lights, so I had to use trans red instead. I used the red on the red F40, as it kind of looked weird on the yellow one.

The bonnet is slightly flatter because I didn't have enough 3x1 arches, so I had to use 4x1 arches instead. I also don't have any yellow 1x1 clips that I used for the rear diffusor. I'm not even sure if LEGO makes them O_O So I tried different colours such as grey, black and even white. I decided that blue-grey was the best colour as I could pass it off as exposed carbon fibre.

I prefer it with grey wheels. Black ones don't look right. Snazzy remake though!

Once again (and quite logically) the second version is even better than the first one. This one real look close to the real thing. The air intakes on the sides are very creative.

In fact, it really looks cool as a 4-wide model, too. I've built it in LDD and put a picture here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/286936 I hope, you like it.

That's an awesome little F40 you built here. It's very accurate with a lot of detail. I think, with a few modifications it would make a cool 4-wide, too

Thankyou everyone for your wonderful comments :D @R.H., thankyou for timing that for me. One is never sure exactly how long one's questions will take ;) @Ben Shaw, Thankyou! The intake design is probably my favourite element of the car :) @Sabby M, I am honored that you think my creation is that good :D I agree, 5 wides are a lot trickier than other scales such as 4 wide, but you can pack a supprising amount of detail into that extra stud. @Hot Rod, I had different wheels as I was unsure which one I liked more (I explained it in the text ;)) @ Ricky, thankyou. This is deffinately in my top 3 favourite MOCs :) Also, I've made a yellow version due to popular demand, and I'll post some photos a little later.

vast improvement, but I prefer the grey rims, they are more like the original ferrari wheels as mortalswordsman said. a yellow one would be nice, two cars are nice to have. 5/5

The plate you used for the curved intake is actually a very good idea, I don't think anybody's done that before

A test!?! I didn't study DX!!!! 1:I prefer the grey wheels to the black ones, since grey wheels look more like a stock car, whilst black wheels look more geared toward racing. 2:A yellow version, while not necessary, may be fun for some "racing" photos. 3:This is a bit better than your original, since the original did have some out of proportion spots like the spoiler and side vents. There you go, your 1 minute answers, although it took 2:53 seconds...

Oh, Enzo Ferrari himself would be proud to see this. Now to answer those questions : 1.Grey is definitely better, and correct. 2.Red is enough for me. 3.Absolutely! ;-)

Vroom vroom I want to play with it too :). V1 was good but this is far better. The air intakes and new rear spoiler are especially good. And the new headlights / nose looks great (thanks for the mention;) ) I would definitely make a yellow version and maybe create a little race scene. I usually like black but in this case I prefer the grey wheels, they look more like the original 5 spokes. Excellent little moc. Joe
