This is a funny tribute to two towns that I love, Nice (Nikaia) and Antibes (Antipolis), in the French Côte d’Azur, which where founded by Greeks…
About this creation
During the VI Century BC, some colons from Greece founded the town of Nikaia Antipolis, somewhere on Mediterranean shore…
An Acropolis was built in honour of Athena and a Great Colossus was built, the biggest ever built, bigger more than the Colossus of Rodes, to thank Athena, the Great Goddess, for her protection against the enemies...

An aerial view of the Acropolis. You can see the Propylaea, monumental gates with columns, the main Temple and the Theatre. The entrance remembers the bow of the ship which transported the first colons

The main Temple, which has exactly the same floor plan than the Parthenon in Athens, two cellas and 82 columns. It measures 100 x 46 studs

Another view of the Propylaea

The beautiful Corinthian Capitals

An aerial view of the Theater, built following a classical Greek Theater plan

It has three row of arcs…

… and Minifigs can walk inside each gallery

Today the Hoplites are spending time in various contests…

… since the war is now finished, the soldiers come to Theater to support their companions

There’s a lot of people inside too!

Fighting contest…

… and javelin trow

A big statue of Zeus is standing outside the Acropolis

An Eagle, his sacred animal, is on his right hand…

… and a lightning on his left one, beware of the wrath of Zeus!

I love this picture, it seems that the lightning is true!

«My brothers, we must say stop to war, it costs too much money, they will increase taxes!» Are they in 2011? Well, story never changes!

This old man lives like Diogenes, in a barrel, he doesn’t need anything else !

A market is just beside the Acropolis

Some soldiers are going to the Temple to thank Athena for their victory

«I want to engage in the army!» «Me too!» say those two men

Market view

A lot of goods are sold here…

«Buy my spears, they are excellent!»

«Hurry Mom, I wanna see the Hoplites at Theatre!»

The Colossus of Athena : it is 57 bricks height

«Holy Crap! She’s sooooooo big! » seems to say this Hoplite…

… but it is his first time in Nikaia Antipolis!

Athena likes in hands a owl, her sacred animal, symbol of wisdom

A phylosophe is discussing with his disciples about the deep mysteries of life…

… under an olive tree, the sacred tree of Athena

A rear view of the Temple, built on a solid rock base

The strong walls

An Hoplite is refreshing himself in the fountain…

… while another is resting on a bench

The Temples has two cellas : the rear one holds the Treasury…

… and the biggest one the statue of the Goddess

The young victorious General is bringing a present to Athena, to thank her for his victory

A priest is waiting for him

A big torch is burning beside the Temple

The Temple opens revealing the inside cellas

The Treasury Cella

The Statue of Athena

People come to worship the Goddess

Closer view of the statue made in Ivory and Gold

«O Athena, great Goddess of wisdom and victory, let my husband come home safe from war!»

The Statue occupies the whole height of the Cella

Two priests worship Athena night and day…

… and the doors of the Temple are always open

Details of the Statue of Athena

It tooked two months to complete this MOC. It is more than 50,000 bricks and small parts and 150 minifigs in all among which 100 Hoplites. Greek people have custom made waterslide decals.
Credits go to :

The sheer amount of advanced planning and historical reference are mind-boggling. I don't build Dio's, but cannot fail to be just struck speechless by the quality of this one. Highest compliments!

Wow, just plain wow on the Nice (Nikaia) Antipolis. You must have used somewhere around 200,000 LEGO elements to build such a masterpiece! This is definitely going to be a MOCOTY contender for sure! However, as a side note, the capital of my old state (Nashville, Tennessee) has a replica of the Parthenon itself. |

Awesome job! You captured the feel of ancient Greece brilliantly. Those waterslide decals look slick too. Almost as if they were actually made that way from the factory. It's great to see some attention being paid to early history, since official LEGO sets from this time period are sorely lacking (collectible minis, Atlantis, and Explorers sort of fill this need... but only slightly). Anyway, huge fan of all things ancient. Feel free to check out my medieval/fantasy mocs.
