About this model

This is my first model of an actual real person, and probably my most challenging project to-date. Total design and construction time for this model was about 7 hours, followed by another 3 hours of photography and digital image manipulation. The chair and rider were built as completely separate components. Several photographs of Prof Hawking from around 2001 were used as reference points, including the one shown above.

3D Stereogram

As with all my 'micro-scale' efforts, here is a 3D stereogram so you can enjoy the model up-close and personal. Put your face close to the screen, stare through the center, then slowly focus on one of the two images. Tilt head as necessary to allow the two images to align, et voila!

Mini-Hawking Model

Our 8-year old was inspired to create his own 'mini' Hawking model based on my creation. And what a great result! Ironically his version only took 5 minutes to construct. He is now fascinated with Prof Hawking, and will probably grow up to be a theoretical physicist ...and master Lego builder, of course!

amazing fantastic wonderful I can think of no better way to honor Mr. Hawking. Lego is how I came to understand gear ratios, length, width, the elements, particles, and the universe..... this is a piece of fine art and i wish to own it someday...or a copy of it, or encounter it in another universe...(and own a copy) I am sure I will encounter it in another universe but just in case I am busy there, how much for the parts and your directions? amazing piece... best pete

I saw a kid trying to rip this off and take credit for it the other day. Isn't that flattering? I really love your work. I love the little details you put into everything. Keep It Studly Sir.

A wonderfully blocky testiment to one of the worlds greastest scientists. Even Prof Hawking himself would have a few, positive choice words to say about this, especially as he's in orbit and trekking across a Martian vista! you've captured him extremely well conidering the difficulties face with lego when trying to construct organic things such as heads. Great work
