Neo Scavenger
Scavenger, a Constructicon from Decepticon faction from Transformers Cartoon Series. Transforms into an excavator with offensive capabilities!
About this creation

Introduction

Constructicons is a sub-group of Decepticons from Transformers cartoon
series. Consist of six robot that transform into construction vehicles, with
ability  to merge into one huge , but clumsy robot known as Devastator.
For those who are uninitiated... try google "G1 Constructicon toys" to see their
original toys.

My Neo Constructicons project will first and foremost, attempts to recreate
them in "modern" looking vehicular modes, and preferably in realistic color
(unlike the lime green in all six original toys).

As for the combined mode  , it will be attempted when I'm done with
inidividual MOCs of Constructicons... hopefully sometime by first or second
quarter of 2012.

Scavenger

Scavenger transforms into an excavator and form the left arm of Devastator,
HOWEVER.. in this MOC of him .... he is not combiner-ready yet.

One of the first thing that came into my mind before I get down to building
him, is to improve his legs . The original toy has the whole treads/tracks as
the legs, with NO knee articulation. Since I've decided to use real LEGO treads,
these treads must form the lower leg, for me to apply knee articulation. But the
length of the tread will be too long for lower legs , so I've decided to expand
them to form  the (base of the) feet as well . This again might loosen the
treads. This is solved by implementing a notch be swiveled to lock the tread in
place during transformation. From the photos you'll see later on, I managed to
cram in hidden cannons to fill up the gap in the treads.

Trivia

  • About 80% of the MOC was done in 2 nights, and another 5 days to
    improvise the aesthetics.

  • Initially the shovel hydraulics was built using LEGO plates.. but its
not symmetrical at all ( studs on one side, and none at the other). I
scrapped this design and use more LEGO technic parts, tubes and rods
    instead.

  • This is one of the rare MOC Transformers I made where no transformation
is required for the robot head . It it stays there hidden by other parts in
    vehicle mode.

  • The cockpit of the excavator when folded to the back (in robot mode)...
doesn't stay in place when he's upright standing (Since its held on by just
ONE studded lego clip). This is why I implement a cannon on it to be
swiveled up and resting on  his shoulder, thus holding the cockpit kibble in place
    as well.

Excavator Mode

ATTACK MODE!

Huge cannon flips out from the back of the excavator and
rotated to the side. Side cannons flip out from under the tread too!

 Transformation Sequence

As usual, (except for the clip on rifle) no parts are removed during
transformation. For visual clarity, the photos below show transformation for the
lower and upper body separately.

I'd give him 5 stars (if he had a limb mode and could combine into Devastator)

Scavenger will most probably be the leg. I'm tempted to use the treads as base of combiner foot (like in TF2:Revenge of the Fallen movie). I'll definitely will try my best to incorporate whole combiner limbs and hands into my MOC. :)

Awesome! Great proportions and the head looks good. I'm curious to see how you do the combiner mode. Will you incorporate the forearm and hand into the design or will those be extra? I hope the former :)

Wow excellent moc and presentation. He looks great in both modes. I especially like his chest and head area, the legs are brilliant too. Your whole transformer collection is stunning. I recently finished my first transformer (jetfire) and I hope to start another soon. :)
