I'm finally happy with the hull detail, so here are some pics. The colour and patterns are now very close to the reference pics I studied. I'll merge all everything into one heading soon.

Hi there! Ive been searching the net for 7965 mods, and yours is definitely my favourite. Especially the mandibles are great. You indicated that you were going to upload some more pics, also of the mandible construction (hinges inside etc.). I know, that was more that two years ago. Any way that we (Im sure there are more people interested, not just me) could encourage you to put in the effort? Cheers from Madrid, Spain

Oh, I just wanted to add, although I haven't done a total brick count (I'm afraid if I take it apart I won't be able to put it back together the same way:)) it did cost me around $100 - $150 AU in extra parts (including some printed amd stickered pieces from the old falcon) so I estimate there are at least 1/3 more parts or 1800 - 2000 pieces in this now.

Quoting Jarlz Choi i really love your creation, i would really want to modify my millennium falcon like yours, would you please give me details of what extra parts i should get in order to made a fantastic ship like this?
I used the force:) Seriously, I rebuilt it a couple of times before I was satisfied and ordered parts as I was building. The madibles and pushing the cockpit back were the main changes to get the overall shape correct. The rest was just detail - putting pieces on, comparing the look to cannon images and so on. I do plan to upload some more pics and show the inside of the mandibles at some stage. Have been working on the x-wing a lot of late and have that pretty close to cannon size and shape now so will upload that eventually.

Very nice! How do I go about modifying the front mandibles/cockpit how you did on this kit?

Quoting Ceativity is overrated Simply amazing. This is the best Lego Millennium falcon I have seen. I am sad MOCpages is having issues and I can't look at the overhaul section. Moving the cockpit back was a great idea. I was curious on the smaller section of the mandibles where they connect to the hull near the circle piece. Did you use a hinge to get the slightly odd angle?...I'm not sure if that question made sense. Fantastic job, can't wait to see the underside and interior.
Yes, there are locking hinges inside. Surprisingly, they lock at a point that is perfect for the angle. I used 1x2 - 2x2 brackets on pieces extending from the locking hinges to place the wedges on top. Finally, the sickered discs are positioned to cover the join, which also lines up with where those mandible vents are on the falcon. If I could post more photos, I could show the inside of a mandible so you can see how it works. I built and rebuilt quite a few times to get it right:)

Quoting Infinite Brickman Looking forward to your underside falcon shots. All my pics are currently down due to site problems and I actually have some new pics to post soon after I get some more parts. Really like your design though. After looking at this and seeing how 7965 is built I went back and redisgned the the middle of the mandibles from the 4504 set to this one and I think it looks great! I think mine must have around 2000 or more parts at this time. I really went crazy and bought a bunch of extra parts when I got this and it went through alot of changes to get where it is now. I love the UCS Falcon but you can't pick it up can you? It looks fragile but then I have never seen it outside of a case before. Look for new pics soon from me and let me know what you think!
I went to look at your pics today but site problems prevented me. it's why I haven't bothered putting more up or merging my falcon listing yet. The UCS falcon is expensive and still isn't an accurate shape. I've never liked the lack of interior detail and cockpit design on the UCS either.

Quoting Infinite Brickman Nice Falcon!!! I have been thinking about getting this set to mod but wasn't sure if it would be worth it. Really like how you moved the cockpit back and made the mandibles bigger. this set has alot going for it. The bottom leaves alot to be desired on this set. Not sure what you have done with it but it can be made better as I'm sure you can agree. Looks like you combined 4504 and 7965 together and this looks great!
The set is, I think, a better falcon skeleton than 4504 but is lacking in shape and detail when constructed according to TLC instructions. It is also a more solid build and has better constructed top hull sections. I ordered some 4504 wedge plates for the mandibles, a chess board tile for inside and the stickered disks for the front. All the other pieces used in the mod are from more recent sets. I recon the total part count for this creation is in excess of 2000 pieces now, so shudder to think how much it would cost as a system set with the star wars brand. I spent about half of it's cost on parts, so I guess TLC would charge an extra 75% from what the set costs now if they were to retail it with a similar level of detail and shape accuracy - that's a $400 set in Australia and probably $250 or so in America. That pushes it into the UCS price ranges and out of the reach of Xmas lists for kids, which is why I guess TLC didn't make it so. I have rounded the underside off with inverse slopes and hidden all the technic beams but they are needed to keep the set strong enough to swoosh - though it is heavy. And, it's still about 30% too small when 2-3 studs equal an approximate meter. I will put the new interior and underside shots up soon. I would really like to make the landing gear retractable but am at a loss on how to do so and support the weight.
